Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week | April 18 - 24, 2016
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of April 18 - 24, 2016. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.

Baseball
6667Julian Loret de Mola / Nova Southeastern University / Sr. / Pitcher / Miami, Fla.
Loret de Mola is SSC Pitcher of the week following a nine strikeout performance against Embry-Riddle. The Miami native went nine innings allowing no runs on five hits while walking two as Nova Southeastern won the game, 6-0. The victory was Loret de Mola’s fifth on the season, one less his career high. Nova Southeastern is now 31-13 and 14-4 in SSC play.

6668Julian Abreu / Barry University / Jr. / Infielder / Miami, Fla.
Abreu earns SSC Player of the Week honors following a .545 (6-for-11) batting average in a series win over Rollins. The Miami native had 12 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.091 in the three-game series. Abreu drew three walks bringing his on-base percentage to 0.643. His top game of the series came in the finale, the junior went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI, two home runs, and a walk. The play of Abreu brings Barry over the .500 mark to 22-21 overall. The Buccaneers hold a 6-12 record in SSC play.


Softball
6610Niki Fogle / Rollins College / Sr. / RHP / White House, Tenn.
For the second time this season Fogle is SSC Pitcher of the Week. The White House, Tennessee native picked up two victories over No. 7 Saint Leo. Fogle limited the Lions to just two runs on three hits while striking out four in the first of two complete games. In the series finale, Fogle again went the distance shutting out the Lions on just three hits. For the week, Fogle held batters to a .136 average and struck out five hitters. The Tars are now 35-13-1 overall and 15-6 in SSC play.

6669Francais Olexa / Lynn University / So. / DP/P / Delta, British Columbia, Canada 
Olexa is awarded SSC Player of the Week honors after guiding Lynn to it’s first SSC series victory, this season. The Delta, British Columbia native’s top performance came in the series finale against Nova Southeastern where she went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, a run scored, two doubles and a homerun. For the Week, the Fighting Knights sophomore went 6-for-9 at the plate with five RBI, scoring three with three doubles, and a homerun. Lynn is 15-30-1 overall and 4-16-1 in SSC play. 


Tennis
6670Egor Panyushkin / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Moscow, Russia
Panyushkin is named SSC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 this week and helping Saint Leo finish the regular season with a 20-1 record. Paired with Jaime Bueno for an 8-4 upset take down of the #21 doubles pairing over Fabian Sierleyn and Carlos Becke from No. 6 ERAU. The Lions won 5-1 win over the Eagles. The Moscow native added a 6-2, 6-2 win in doubles as well. Against Palm Beach Atlantic, Panyushkin again paired with Bueno for an 8-1 win. He also won in singles 6-1, 6-1.

6672Sonja Larsen / Barry University / So. / Verden, Germany
Larsen is this week’s SSC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after defeating No. 28 Petra Jurova. In two sets Larsen defeated Jurova, 6-1 and 6-2, clinch Barry’s victory at No. 7 Nova Southeastern. The Buccaneer sophomore improved to 14-1 on the season and 4-1 against nationally ranked opponents. Barry is now 15-2 overall and 6-2 in SSC play.


Men's Lacrosse

6673Justin Robinson / Saint Leo University / Fr. / Mid / Pickering, Ontario
Robinson takes SSC Offensive Player of the Week following a walk-off double overtime goal at Florida Southern. Robinson scored the game-opening goal and added two assists, including one on Joe Donnian's goal that tied the game with 2:27 left in regulation. Robinson’s game winning goal helped the Lions secure the No. 3 seed in the SSC Tournament. Saint Leo finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-4 and 2-3 in SSC play.

6674Cody Bartusiak / Lynn University / Fr. / LSM / Arvada, Colo.
Bartusiak is awarded this week’s SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor after breaking his own school record for caused turnovers in a game with six at Florida Tech. The Arvada, Colorado native tied for the team-lead with four ground balls in the 10-6 Fighting Knight victory. Bartusiak finished the season atop the SSC leaderboard in both total caused turnovers and caused turnovers per game. His 30 caused turnovers this year nearly doubles the previous Lynn single-season school record. The Fighting Knights finished the season with an overall record of 9-5 and 2-3 in SSC play.

6346Alex Patton / University of Tampa / So. / Midfielder/ FOS / West Hempstead, N.Y.
Patton, for the second time this season, is named SSC Specialist of the Week. The West Hempstead, New York native posted a faceoff winning percentage of .636 (14-for-22) over Rollins. The sophomore would also scoop up two groundballs in the contest. With a chance to host next week's conference tournament on the line the Spartans defeated Rollins, 11-9. Patton’s .629 faceoff winning percentage is second in among all SSC players. UT finishes the regular season with an overall record of 12-2 and 5-0 in SSC play.


Women's Lacrosse
6375Kendall Kerge / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Attack / Edgewater, Md.
Kerge is awarded SSC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Against Saint Leo, in Florida Southern’s final regular season home game, Kerge had three goals on five shots, all on goal. She also dished one assist and a caused a turnover as the Moccasins defeated the Lions, 15-2. At Rollins, in a battle for SSC tournament hosting rights and the No. 1 seed, Kerge had four goals on five shots, all on goal. The Edgewater, Maryland native had two draw controls, one ground ball, and two free position goals in FSC’s 15-6 win. Florida Southern ended the regular season with a 14-3 record overall and 4-0 in SSC play. The Moccasins will host the SSC Tournament beginning on Friday, April 29th.

6536Gabby Barowski / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Defender / Alexandria, Va.
Barowski is honored as SSC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. The Alexandria, Virginia native helped the Florida Southern defense limit opponents to a total of eight goals, caused 24 turnovers and held their opponents to 40 turnovers on the week. Barowski opened the week against Saint Leo with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Playing to host the SSC Tournament, at Rollins, she had a ground ball and limited Rollins' leading scorer Tyler Thomas (who entered game with 38 goals) to just one goal on one shot in the Moccasins’ 15-6 win. Barowski and Florida Southern held Rollins to a season low six goals. FSC ended the regular season with a 14-3 record overall and 4-0 in SSC play. The Moccasins will host the SSC Tournament beginning on Friday, April 29th.
