Schulze-Geisthovel scored two goals and provided three assists on his way to a third SSC Offensive Player of the Week honor. In Saint Leo's penultimate SSC game, Schulze-Geisthovel scored twice and provided two assists. The 4-2 win over Eckerd put Saint Leo in to the drivers seat to win the conference championship with either a win or draw against Barry. Against the Buccaneers, Schulze-Geisthovel assisted on Yuga Yanagisawa's equalizing goal in the 87th minute. The goal provided the Lions the SSC regular season championship and No. 1 seed in the SSC tournament.
Yuga Yanagisawa / Saint Leo University / Defender / Fr. / Tokyo, Japan
Yanagisawa is tabbed Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the goal that secured Saint Leo's third SSC men's soccer championship. Facing Barry University, SLU needed a win or a tie to earn the conference title. Barry scored the game's first goal in the 86th minute. Down 1-0, the Lions pushed for the equalizer. Yanagisawa found the back of the net at the 86:38 mark to tie the game at 1-1. The defender scored the goal off a rebound from a Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel free kick. Yanagisawa and the Saint Leo defense held the Buccaneers scoreless for the two overtime periods, securing the SSC title and tournament No. 1 seed.
Women's Soccer
Nytorp is named SSC Offensive Player of the week following a performance that helped the Sharks clinch a first round bye in the SSC tournament. Nytorp's golden goal, 52 seconds into overtime, gave the Sharks a 1-0 victory over Saint Leo on Thursday, clinching the No. 2 seed in the SSC Championship for the team. After a scoreless full regulation, Nytorp's successful shot jumped the Sharks from fifth in the standings to second and earned the squad the conference's second first-round bye.
Mary Spring / Rollins College / Goal / Sr. / Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Spring is named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following a shutout victory of Lynn. On senior day, the first game back from an injury, Spring took goal for the Tars. She stopped six Fighting Knights shots to preserve the shutout. Rollins won the match 1-0 and secured the SSC tournament No. 4 seed. They will host No. 5 Florida Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Swimming
Pawel Trenda / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Oswiecim, Poland
Trenda had three individual first-place finishes and recorded 27 points for the Saint Leo men’s swimming in a 176-77 win over Rollins College, Saturday afternoon in Winter Park. Trenda won the 100 Breaststroke (57.13), the 100 Fly (49.44), and the 200 IM (1:58.54), with his 100 Breaststroke and 100 Fly times both second-fastest in the SSC this season. He also swam the third leg for Saint Leo’s 200 Free Relay (1:24.81) team whose time is fastest in the conference thus far in 2015-16.
Nicole Weber / Saint Leo University / Jr. / Konz, Germany
Weber tallied 27 points for Saint Leo women’s swimming in its 167-93 win over Rollins College, Saturday afternoon in Winter Park. Weber had first place finishes in three individual events: the 200 Fly (2:07.01), the 200 Breaststroke (2:16.53), and the 200 IM (2:06.64), and recorded the top time in the SSC thus far this season in all three events. Her 200 Breaststroke time is the fastest in NCAA Division II this season, while her 200 Fly time set a new Saint Leo record and is the sixth-fastest in D-II. Her 200 IM team time is the second-fastest in NCAA Division II this season. Weber also swam the second leg for Saint Leo’s first-place team in the 400 Medley Relay, which clocked a time of 3:59.50.
