Weekly Honors in Men's & Women's Basketball

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week - November 23 - 29, 2015

Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of  November 23 - 29. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.


Men's Basketball

Landers takes SSC Player of the Week after a pair of solid performances for Lynn on the hardwood. The Fort Lauderdale product led the Fighting Knights to two big regional wins this week, taking down Miles College, 95-93, before helping defeat Lane, 69-61. Against Miles, Landers went 8-for-12 from the free throw line to notch a game-high 21 points and led Lynn with nine boards. The following day, Landers finished with a game-high 25 points while shooting 10-of-17 from the field, 2-of-4 from long range and a perfect 3-for-3 from the line. Landers has led Lynn in scoring for three consecutive games. In his four games played this season, Landers has not failed to score under 15 points. He currently ranks third in the conference in scoring at 22.8 points per game. He also became the first Fighting Knight to score 20-plus points in three consecutive games since the 2009-10 season. Lynn is 3-2 overall, 0-2 in SSC play.

Keyi earns the SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor after his efforts helped Eckerd to a 3-0 week. During Eckerd's Thanksgiving Classic, the 6-8 junior grabbed four defensive rebounds and had a steal in 18 minutes during a 101-38 victory over Puerto Rico Bayamon. Against Claflin, Kyei tallied eight defensive rebounds and two blocked shots in 24 minutes during a 71-62 Tritons victory. Keyi added five defensive rebounds, two blocked shots, and a steal to his weekly total during a 82-67 win over Division III opponent Franklin. Kyei finishes the week with 25 points and 22 rebounds (17 defensive). The Tritons are now 6-1, 1-0 in SSC play.
 
2015-16 SSC Men's Basketball Award Winners - Week by Week

Women's Basketball

Blassage is named SSC Player of the Week after averaging double digit scoring in three games and reaching a season high of 22 points. During a 60-55 win at Palm Beach Atlantic, Blassage scored 14 and had five rebounds, three assist, and a steal.  Her season high in scoring came against Claflin where she went 5 for 8 from the field and added 12 free throws to help the Moccasins achieve the 79-71 victory.  In a 64-59 victory over USC Aiken, Blassage scored 10 and provided her team with five assists. She tallied 46 points, 15 rebounds, 14 assists, and four steals on the week. Florida Southern is 7-0 overall, 2-0 in SSC play. The 7-0 start for Florida Southern is the second best in school history.

Harris earns SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors after averaging nine rebounds over three Florida Southern wins. Harris' top performance this week came against Claflin where she recorded a 14 point/12 rebound (four defensive) double double while adding a block and steal in the Florida Southern victory. The rebound performance is a season high for Harris.  For the week, she tallied 16 defensive rebounds, two steals, and a block. Harris and the Moccasins move to 7-0 overall, which is the second best in school history.
