Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of September 21 - 27. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
Volleyball
Marotti is named Offensive Player of the Week following a 2-0 week for Florida Southern where she averaged a .400 Hitting Percentage. Marotti recorded nine Kills in 20 Attempts (.400) with one Error in a 3-0 home victory over Lynn University. She added a Service Ace, three Digs, and five Block Assists in the victory. At home against Nova Southeastern University, the 5-10, Right Side Hitter tallied 15 Kills in 25 Attempts (.400) with five Errors in a three set victory. Marotti had 12 Digs and two Total Blocks while helping FSC overcome NSU. Marotti and the Moccasins are now 12-0 overall, 4-0 in SSC play.
Ivana Didanovic / Barry University / Middle Blocker / Jr. / Belgrade, Serbia
Didanovic earns the SSC Defensive Player of the Week following a 2-0 week in conference play for Barry. Against Saint Leo University, Didanovic tallied seven Total Blocks in a five set win over Eckerd College. She added 15 Kills and three Service Aces in the victory. In a five set win over Saint Leo University, the 6-3 Middle Blocker had three Total Blocks and 15 Kills. Didanovic was also named the American Volleyball Scouting Report Player of the Week. Didanovic and the Buccaneers are 4-3 overall, 2-1 in SSC Play.
Men's Soccer
Matt Volk / Rollins College / Midfielder / So. / St. Augustine, Fla.
Volk's hat trick led the Rollins Tars in their 4-3 win over previously unbeaten Florida Institute of Technology and earns him Offensive Player of the Week. Volk beat the keeper one on one in 36th minute to give Rollins a 2-0 lead in the first half. In the opening minutes of the second half, Volk scored twice on assists from Tosan Popo. His goal at the 46:38 mark proved to the game winner. Rollins went 1-1 this week, they are 3-4 overall and 1-1 in SSC play.
Alex Gott / Eckerd College / Goal / So. / Bedworth, England
Gott is tabbed SSC Defensive Player of the Week following his two shutouts this week. Gott saved six shots in the Tritons' 2-0 home victory over conference foe Florida Southern College. At Embry-Riddle, Gott stopped three shots as Eckerd won the match 2-0. Gott now has four shutouts on the season. Eckerd is 5-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 in SSC Play.
Women's Soccer
Weisberg takes SSC Offensive Player of the Week after a hat trick against #12 Barry University this past week. the defender first got involved in the game with an assist of Caroline Duerr in the 17th minute. Weisberg scored her first collegiate goal off a free kick in the beginning minutes of the second half, giving Lynn a 3-2 lead. Down 4-3, Weisberg scored a PK goal in the 85th minute. In overtime, Weisberg delivered on another PK to seal the Fighting Knights' victory. The win is Lynn's first of the season and the first over Barry since 2012. Weisberg's hat trick was the first by a Lynn women's soccer player since 2012. Lynn is 1-5-1 on the season, 1-1 in SSC Play.
Ciera Misner / Florida Institute of Technology / Defense / Jr. / Malabar, Fla.
Misner piloted a Florida Tech defense that shutout Saint Leo University and allowed one goal to #12 Rollins College. The Panthers shut out a Lions squad that averages two goals per game in 2015. FIT won the match, 1-0, allowing seven shots on goal. Misner's penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute proved to be the game winner against Saint Leo. Misner and the Panthers held a #12 Rollins squad that averaged over seven shots on goal per game to two shots on goal. Florida Tech fell, 1-0, following a rebound goal in the 89th minute. Florida Tech is now 5-3 overall, 2-2 in SSC play.
Cross Country
Jose Perez / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Haines City, Fla.
Perez won the Florida Southern College Moccasin Invitational at Lakeland's Holloway Park & Nature Preserve with a time of 26:47.30 over the hilly, 8000m course. Perez won the race by 15.8 seconds over second place finisher, Andrew Carpenter of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University. For Perez, it was his first collegiate win of his four-year career at Florida Southern. The Moccasins took third place out of nine teams.
Anabel Knoll / Nova Southeastern University / Fr. / Ingolstadt, Germany
Knoll led Nova Southeastern in the women's 5000m race at the Florida Southern College Moccasin Invitational in Lakeland's Holloway Park & Nature Preserve this past Friday. Her final time of 19:24 earned her first place overall in the competition. It is the first victory of her collegiate career. The Sharks finished fifth of eight teams.
