Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week - September 14 - September 20, 2015
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of September 14 - 20. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
Volleyball
Lisenbee takes Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording a .403 Hitting Percentage as Tampa went 2-0 in the conference play this week. In a 3-0 win at RV Saint Leo University, Lisenbee recorded 19 Kills in 43 Attempts (.349) with four Errors. she added a Service Ace and two Block Assists in the victory. At home against Eckerd College, the 6-2, Outside Hitter tallied 17 Kills in 34 Attempts (.471) with one Error in four sets. Lisenbee added four Block Assists in the 3-1 win. Lisenbee and the Spartans are now 7-3 overall, 2-0 in SSC play.
Anna Tovo / Florida Southern College / Outside Hitter / So. / Aiken, S.C.
Tovo garners the Defensive Player of the Week following a 2-0 week on the road for the Florida Southern Moccasins. Against conference foe Rollins College, Tovo registered 15 Digs, six Kills, and a Block as FSC defeated the Tars, 3-0. In Daytona Beach, Tovo completed a double-double with a 19 Dig / 13 Kill effort against Embry-Riddle. FSC went on to defeat ERAU 3-1. The double-double is Tovo's third of 2015. With the play of Tovo, Florida Southern moves to 10-0 overall, 1-0 in SSC Play.
Men's Soccer
Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel / Saint Leo University / Forward / Jr. / Drensteinfurt, Germany
Schulze-Geisthovel set the pace for the Saint Leo Lions in their 3-1 upset of NSCAA No. 1 Lynn University in Boca Raton. The 6-2, forward scored the game's first goal at the 26:07 mark on a pass from Bafou Sanogo. The win is Saint Leo's first at Lynn since October 12, 2010. The Lions are now 3-1 on the year, 1-0 in SSC Play.
James White / Saint Leo University / Goal / Fr. / Portsmouth, England
Freshman James White earns SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors following a 3-1 victory over No. 1 Lynn University. White held the Fighting Knights to just one goal and stopped six shots in the Saint Leo victory. White's only goal allowed came on a penalty kick in the 78th minute. White's defense gives Saint Leo their first win over Lynn since 2013. SLU is now 3-1 overall, 1-0 in SSC Play.
Women's Soccer
Lelii earns her second Offensive Player of the Week award following a three goals for NSU. Against SSC opponent Florida Southern College, Lelii scored NSU's two goals in a 3-2 loss. Both of Lelii's goals against FSC drew the game to a tie. Lelii found the net in the 52nd minute and in the 86th minute to send the game into overtime. Lelii scored the only goal in NSU's upset victory of No. 20 University of Tampa by heading in a right side cross from Emily Stearns in the 34th minute. The goal is Lelii's SSC leading ninth of the season. NSU moves to 5-2 on the season, 1-1 in SSC Play.
Selena Jaimes / Saint Leo University / Defense / Jr. / Apopka, Fla.
Jaimes was instrumental in piloting a Saint Leo defense to that secured two Sunshine State Conference victories this week. Jaimes and Saint Leo held Eckerd to five shots on goal and no score. The Lions defeated Eckerd, 2-0. The shutout is Saint Leo's second of 2015. In a 3-1 home win against Lynn University, the Lions allowed seven shots on goal and surrendered one score in the 15th minute. The defender helped Saint Leo hold Lynn scoreless the final 75 minutes and scored the game winning goal, unassisted, in the 30th minute. Saint Leo is now 4-2-1 overall, 2-0 in SSC play.
Cross Country
Tyler Blackburn / University of Tampa / Sr. / Dayton, N.J.
Blackburn finished in sixth-place among non-Division I runners at the Mountain Dew Invitational at the University of Florida on Saturday, September 19. Blackburn posted a time of 25:49.89 on the 8000 meter course. He led the University of Tampa to a fourth place finish, ahead of 14 other teams including three Sunshine State Conference teams.
Colett Rampf / Saint Leo University / So. / Premnitz, Germany
Rampf takes home her second consecutive Runner of the Week award after her performance at the Mountain Dew Invitational at the University of Florida on Saturday, September 19. Rampf finished second among all non-Division I competition, posting a 5000 meter time of 17:52.54. Saint Leo finished in 2nd place as a team behind SSC opponent University of Tampa.
