Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of September 7 - 13. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
Volleyball
Brady,
a 2014 AVCA Third Team All-American, was named to the All-Tournament team at the Terrace Hotel Classic hosted by Florida Southern College this past week. Brady recorded a .355 Hitting Percentage as the Moccasins went 4-0 in the tournament. Brady's top match of the week came against 8-1 Central Oklahoma, where she recorded a season high 13 Kills in 26 Attempts with four Errors. Florida Southern also defeated Merrimack (3-0), Armstrong State (3-1), and No. 24 West Texas A&M (3-0) during the multi-day event. Brady added two blocks in the 3-1 win. The 6-0, Middle Blocker, tallied 37 Kills in 76 Attempts with 10 Errors in 14 sets this week.
Kaitlyn Sibson / Eckerd College / Libero / So. / Tampa, Fla.
Sibson earns the Defensive Player of the Week after a strong showing at the Eckerd Invitational where she averaged 5.0 Digs/set as the Tritons went 3-1. Sibson's top performance came during a 3-2 loss against Seton Hill. She recorded 25 Digs, five Assists, and three Service Aces in the narrow loss. Eckerd earned 3-0 victories over Colorado Christian, UNC-Pembroke, and West Liberty during the tournament. The 5-8, Libero, finishes the week with 70 Digs, 21 Assists, and six Service Aces.
Men's Soccer
Chris Hellman / Lynn University / Forward / Jr. / Cologne, Germany
Hellman,
the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Player and Offensive Player of the Year, is selected Offensive Player of the Week after a hat trick and assist against Delta State. Hellman's first impact on the game was an assist of Victor Moreia's goal in the 25th minute. Hellman netted his first score of the game just over three minutes later. In the second half, Hellman scored at the 50:05 and 51:16 marks to earn the hat trick. No. 1 Lynn rolled to victory against the Statesmen, 7-0. It is Hellman's second hat trick in as many games for the Fighting Knights.
Luke Bromley / Florida Southern College / Defense / Fr. / Rugby, England
Bromley earns SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors following his play Florida Southern's 2-1 victory over Alabama-Huntsville. Bromley spearheaded a Florida Southern defense that held Alabama-Huntsville to seven total shots. The Moccasins defense allowed the Chargers just three shots over the final 60 minutes as FSC overcame a 1-0 deficit caused by an own goal in the first five minutes.
Women's Soccer
Asgedom tallied two goals, two assists, and seven points over the weekend. She contributed to all four of Spartan goals in victories over West Florida and No. 3 Columbus State. Against Columbus State, Asgedom scored the opening goal of the game with 3:49 off the clock and assisted CiCi Gonzalez's game winning goal at the 70 minute mark. Asgedom scored the first goal against West Florida in the opening minutes of the second half. She then found Gonzalez for the game winner with less than six minutes to play.
