Weekly Honors in Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, and Swimming

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week - October 12-18, 2015

Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of October 12-18. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.


Volleyball
  Wagner earns her third consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award after leading the Spartans to a 3-0 weekend at the Gulf South Conference / Sunshine State Conference South Region Crossover in Carrollton, Ga. The middle blocker posted 36 Kills at a .567 Attack Percentage pace with only two Errors in 10 sets. Wagner added 12 Blocks across the three-game series. Wagner was named the MVP and earned a spot on the All-Tournament squad as voted on by the coaches at the crossover. The Cape Coral, Fla. native continues to improve her SSC leading Attack Percentage as the weekend brought her season clip to .456. No. 2 Tampa is now 16-3 overall, 6-0 in SSC Play.

Rebecca Wilson / Rollins College / Defensive Specialist / So. / Winter Haven, Fla.
Wilson is named SSC Defensive Player of the Week following her play at the Gulf South Conference / Sunshine State Conference South Region Crossover in Carrollton, Ga this past weekend. Wilson guided the Tars to three 3-0 victories at the crossover. It marks the first time this season Rollins has recorded back-to-back victories. Wilson averaged seven Digs per set across the three games. Against West Georgia, Wilson tallied 11.3 Digs/set, which totaled a new career high of 34 digs. Rollins is 5-13 overall, 1-5 in SSC Play.
 
Men's Soccer

5741 Chris Hellman  / Lynn University / Forward / Jr. / Cologne, Germany
Hellman grabs his third Offensive Player of the Week award after having his hand in five of Lynn's seven goals last week. Hellman assisted on the Fighting Knights' second and third goals in a 3-1 victory over Keiser. Against No. 23 Eckerd, Hellman opened the game with an unassisted goal off an intercepted pass in the 39th minute. In the 77th minute, Hellman found James Casserly off a free kick to give Lynn a late lead. In double overtime Hellman was the lone assist man on Tomer Bitton's game winner in the 107th minute. Lynn now sits at 6-2-2 overall, 3-2-1 in SSC play.


5760James White / Saint Leo University / Goal / Fr. / Porsmouth, England.
White recorded back-to-back shutouts this week to earn his second Defensive Player of the Week honor. White recorded two saves in wins over Christian Brothers (5-0) and Embry Riddle (2-0). The shutouts are the first two of the season for White. On the year, the Lions are is 6-4 overall, 2-2 in SSC Play.

Women's Soccer
 
Lelii's play in Nova Southeastern's two wins earns her a fourth SSC Offensive Player of the Week award. During a 3-2 road victory over Florida Tech, she scored twice including her fifth game-winner of the season. Against No. 16 Rollins, she broke a scoreless draw early in the second half with her 17th score of the year. Lelii then assisted on the golden goal in the first overtime as the Sharks took the 2-1 win. During this last week, Lelii broke the NSU single-season marks for goals and points and continues to lead the SSC is most offensive categories. With the play of Lelii, NSU has tied a program record by winning eight games in a row. NSU is 11-2 on the season, 4-1 in SSC play.
 
5772Ciera Misner / Florida Institute of Technology / Defender / Jr. / Malabar, Fla.
Misner is awarded Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Misner helped guide Florida Tech to a shutout against Florida Southern. The shutout is the seventh of the year delivered by FIT's defense. In addition, the junior scored the game-winner off a free kick in the 85th minute to edge the Moccasins 1-0. Earlier in the week, Misner anchored a defense that held a Nova Southeastern team that averages over 18 shots a game to only eight shots.. Misner also scored a penalty kick against NSU in a 3-2 losing effort. Florida Tech is now 8-4-1 overall, 4-3 in SSC play.

Cross Country
 
5861Joe Marrah / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Lansing, Mich
Marrah finished 18th overall out of 88 runners at the USF Invitational on The Claw, the University of South Florida's golf course. Marrah's time of 27:07 in the 8000m event was the top SSC time. Marrah finished second among 24 non-Division I runners. 

 
5859Emily Schonder / Florida Southern College / So. / Tampa, Fla.
Emily Schonder placed eighth among all non-Division I runners in the USF Invitational with a 6,000 meter time of 26:59.8 on The Claw, the University of South Florida's golf course. She was the Moccasins top finisher in the field of 29 runners in running just the second 6K meet of her college career.
   

Swimming

5862Anton Lobanov / Nova Southeastern University / So. / Novosibirisk, Russia
Lobanov won the 100-yard breaststroke (55.30) at the All-Florida Invitational, defeating all  Division | competitors from the University of Florida and Florida State University. He was one of two swimmers to swim a B-qualifying time in the event. Lobanov then went on to win the 200-yard breaststroke (2:01.05, B-Qualifier), defeating his competitors from the University of Florida and Florida State University by over two seconds. Lobanov has the fastest 200 Breaststroke time in all of Division II in 2015-16 by over two seconds.
 
5860Nicole Weber / Saint Leo University / Jr. / Konz, Germany
Weber lead Saint Leo to a pair of wins over SSC rivals Florida Tech (159.00-98.00) and Lynn (145.00-114.00) in a double-dual meet hosted by the Florida Tech. Weber captured the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:18.05, a Division II best time thus far in 2015-16. Her SSC-best time in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.32) and the 200 IM (2:07.55) also won those events. Weber opened Friday’s meet by swimming the second leg of the Lions’ 200 Medley Relay, which won with a conference-best time of 1:48.16 that is third-best this season in Division II. Weber's 200 Breaststroke and 100 Breaststroke times are NCAA Division-II "B" qualifiers.
