NORMAN, Okla.- The Golf Coaches Association of America has announced the full listing of 2017 Division II PING All-Americans. The Sunshine State Conference has 13 golfers honored across All-America teams following the June 19th reveal.
Six SSC men's golf programs are represented on the All-America teams, led by Barry University and Lynn University with three each. Ten of the SSC's 13 award winners repeat as All-Americans.
John Coultas (Florida Southern College) highlights this year's SSC All-Americans. The junior has been named First Team All-American for the third consecutive year. Joining Coultas on the First Team is John VanDerLaan (Florida Southern), Richard Mansell (Nova Southeastern University), and Niclas Weiland (Barry). Both VanDerLaan and Mansell return to the First Team after Second Team accolades in 2016. Weiland was a Third Team honoree in 2016.
Mario Beltran (Barry) earns GCAA All-American accolades for the fourth consecutive year. A Second Team member in 2017, Beltran also earned Second Team accolades in 2016 and 2015 as well as Third Team honors in 2014.
All SSC student-athletes on the Third Team belong to Lynn, including the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman, Felix Kvarnstrom. Mateo Gomez and Manuel Torres also represent the Fighting Knights on the Third Team. Gomez was a Second Team honoree in 2016, while Torres was a member of the First Team last season.
For the fourth time in five years, two SSC teams competed in the Medal Match Play Championship for the NCAA title. The Moccasin's of Florida Southern defeated the Fighting Knights of Lynn, 3-2, to capture the program's 13th championship. It is the 23rd men's golf title for the SSC, 102nd overall.
