Sixteen SSC Golfers Awarded GCAA All-American Honors
NORMAN, Okla.– The Golf Coaches Association of America announced the full listing 2016 Division II PING All-American on Monday, June 20. The Sunshine State Conference had 16 golfers honored across All-America teams.
SSC Athletes included on the first team are Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award winner John Coultas of Florida Southern College and Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner Hugo Bernard of Saint Leo University. FSC’s Jimmy Jones was also named a first team member.
Saint Leo University earned the first national title in school history, defeating Chico State 3-2 in Medal Match Play at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf. Hugo Bernard completed stroke play as the 2016 Individual National Champion. It was the sixth year of the medal match-play team championship format. Saint Leo is the third different Sunshine State Conference team to win it, along with Nova Southeastern (2012, 2015) and Barry (2013, 2014).
