Ricardo Gouveia Headlines GCAA All-American & All-Region Honorees

The Golf Coaches Association of America has announced its 2011 award winners for Division II men's golf, and Lynn's Ricardo Gouveia headlined a group that included several SSC golfers.  Gouveia was tabbed the winner of the Phil Mickelson Award for the most outstanding freshman in Division II.

Gouveia won or shared medalist honors twice during his freshman campaign. He won won the Rollins College Invitational and tied for first at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional. Gouveia also claimed top-five finishes at the Golfweek DII Spring Invitational, Bobcat Invitational and Sunshine Conference Championship. He placed in the top 10 on three additional occasions.

A native of Almancil, Portugal, Gouveia has been instrumental in Lynn's run for a DII national title, ranking amoung the best in the field while consistently turning in under-par scores.

Ricardo Celia of Nova Southeastern, Lynn’s Jose Joia, Hayden Letien of USC Aiken, and Andreas Reideborn of Concord joined Gouveia on the All-Freshmen Team.

The GCAA also announced the Division II Ping All-American First Team.  Honorees were: Cyril Bouniol (Abilene Christian), Alex Carpenter (Abilene Christian), Ricardo Gouveia (Lynn), John Jackson (Cal State Monterey Bay), Jose Joia (Lynn),  Jake Murphy (Coker), Kyle Souza (Chico State), and Daniel Stapff (Barry).

Barry's Chris Carlin was later announced as an All-American Second Team selection.  Buccaneer teammate Marcus Segerstrom, Florida Southern's Jude Eustaquio, and Lynn's Daniel Young were given honorable mention.

Eleven SSC golfers were also named to the Ping All-South Region Team.  Making the squad were:  Carlin, Celia, Gouveia, Joia, Segerstrom, Stapff, Young, Rollins' Spencer Cole, Lynn's Roberto Francioni, Florida Tech's Zach Potter, and NSU's Ben Vertz.
