MELBOURNE, Fla. - Sunshine State Conference volleyball teams won 25 of 33 matches against Gulf South Conference teams during the 2019 South Regional Crossover this past weekend. The event matched the SSC's 11 members against teams from the Gulf South Conference on October 18th and 19th at the Finley Center in Hoover, Alabama.
SSC teams won 10 of 15 matches on Friday, October 18th, and then took 15 of 18 on Saturday, October 19th. Sixteen of the SSC's 25 victories came in just three sets, while Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Saint Leo University, and the University of Tampa went 3-0 during the event. The SSC has now won 127 of the 165 (.770) South Region Crossover matches since the competition began in 2015.
Ten SSC student-athletes were named to the 2019 South Region Crossover All-Tournament Team. Olivia Roa of Embry-Riddle highlights the list following her third consecutive selection. Joining Roa as a repeat from 2018 is teammate Alyssa Rudd, as well as Annabella Arcari of Saint Leo University and Katie McKiel from Tampa.
SSC regular season play resumes on Tuesday, October 22nd and concludes on Saturday, November 23rd. The 2019 SSC regular-season champion will have an automatic qualifier to the NCAA South Regional, which begins on Thursday, December 5th, at non-predetermined sites. NCAA Division II finals will be held Thursday, December 12th to Saturday, December 14th at the Auraria Events Center in Denver.
