CARROLLTON, Ga. – Sunshine State Conference teams took 30 of 33 matches from the Gulf South Conference in a regional crossover this past weekend. The event, hosted by University of West Georgia, matched the nine SSC members and two provisional members against the 11 teams from the GSC on October 16th and 17th.
SSC and provisional member teams went a combined 18 and 1 on Friday, October 16th and then took 12 of the 14 matches on Saturday, October 17th. Twenty-two of the SSC’s 30 victories came in just three sets. The South Region Crossover Tournament Team consisted of six SSC student-athletes and one provisional member student-athlete. Highlighting the tournament team was Jessica Wagner from the University of Tampa who was selected as the Most Valuable Player.
“The Gulf South Conference hosted a tremendous event this past weekend. The tournament was very well run and it was a pleasure to be part of it,” commented Chris Catanach, Head Coach of the defending national champions, University of Tampa. “I am very proud of the performances by our fellow SSC schools. For our conference to win 30 of the 33 matches versus some very good teams loaded with outstanding athletes is a tremendous accomplishment.”
