Lynn leads by five after round one

DADE CITY, Fla. - Round one of the 2023 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship is complete, and national No. 1 Lynn University leads the field by five strokes. Play resumes at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club on Monday, April 17th at 7:45 a.m.

Women's Round 1 Recap
 
Sara Ericsson of Lynn, the No. 4 ranked GolfStat player in Division II, ended the first round atop the leaderboard after shooting a 68 (-4). She is looking to become the first Fighting Knight to win the SSC Championship since Helen Kreuzer won it in 2021. Sitting just one stroke behind Ericsson are Nova Southeaern University's Olivia Gronborg and Rollins College's Carla Alvarez Perez. Eckerd College's Amelie Alcantara and Lynn's Camila Madariaga both shot 70 (-2) and are tied for fourth.

Lynn is the only team to be at even-par or better. They finished day one shooting 288 (E) as a team. Their entire top five finished the day in the top 13. Saint Leo University is in second place at 5-over (293). They have three players, Elene Verticchio, Laurence Lamer, and Maya Cote, in the top 10. Rollins is in third place (294, +6), Nova Southeastern is in fourth (298, +10), and the University of Tampa is in fith (300, +12).

Ericsson's four-under is the second-best score ever posted at Lake Jovita during the SSC championship. The record holder is Marie Coors of Saint Leo. Her 6-under at Lake Jovita in 2014 is the best round ever posted at the SSC championship.
 
Lynn ties 2008's Nova Southeastern team for the third-best single-round team score at the SSC championship. Their 288 was the best score ever posted during the championships, breaking Barry University's record of 290 from 2019.

The top single-round score for a team in the tournament was Barry's 286 (-2) at RedTail in 2015 and Nova Southeastern's 286 (-2) at Osprey Point in 2018. They are the only under-par rounds by a team in tournament history.
