Cantor is the second Moccasin to win the award

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Addison Cantor of Florida Southern College is honored as the 2019-20 Sunshine State Conference Woman of the Year. The First Team Academic All-American becomes the second Moccasin to win the award.

Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from each of the league's 11 member institutions chose Cantor from a pool of nominees. Candidates were scored based on the NCAA's Woman of the Year guidelines.

Cantor competed in nine cross country races during her final two seasons as a Moccasin. In 2018, she had a banner year, finishing fourth at the SSC Championship, and 10th at the NCAA Division II South Region meet. Subsequently, she was named First Team All-SSC and All-Region. Cantor also holds the school's fastest times in the 3000m, 5000m, and 10000m as a member of the FSC's women's track team.

The Centennial, Colorado native graduated from Florida Southern in Spring 2020 with a 4.0-grade point average in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. CoSIDA named her a First Team Academic All-American this year, following a Second Team nod in 2019. At Florida Southern, Cantor was a four-time President's List Scholar and FSC Dean's List Scholar.

She was the president of Alpha Epsilon Delta Health Pre-Professional Honor Society and a Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society member. Her research studying the behavior and interaction of proteins involved in the pathology of Parkinson's disease has given her opportunities to present at numerous conferences. Cantor was one of two recipients of the inaugural Hanson Academic Merit Award, a Florida Southern award that recognizes outstanding student academic performance that includes notable research.

Cantor is currently serving at the United States Navy Officer Development School, where she is training to be a Naval Officer. Upon completion, she will attend medical school at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University.
