NSU’s Lauren Boudreau Selected as SSC’s Woman of the Year Nominee
Nova Southeastern University’s Lauren Boudreau has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference’s nominee for the NCAA’s Woman of the Year award.
Boudreau was a member of NSU’s rowing team, which won the first NCAA Division II Rowing Championship in conference history earlier this month. A Biology major, she graduated with a 3.65 grade point average.
A native of Waterford, N.Y., Boudreau was a three-time All-Sunshine State Conference selection and served as a co-captain of her squad each of those three seasons. NSU claimed a pair of conference titles during her four-year career, winning consecutive championships in 2011 and 2012.
Boudreau rowed in the stroke seat of the Sharks’ Varsity Eight boat that won the Grand Final at the 2013 NCAA Championship. She was twice selected as a College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) First-Team All-American, receiving the distinction both this spring and as a junior.
Boudreau was an active participant in Nova Southeastern’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) all four years of her collegiate career. She served as president of the committee in her final campaign. In that role, she led the Sharks’ fundraising efforts in support of NCAA Division II’s annual Make-A-Wish fundraiser. Her leadership helped generate funds in excess of $5,000, which exceeded NSU’s goal and represented a 400 percent increase from the previous year’s total.
In 2011, Boudreau attended the SSC’s annual SAAC E.L.I.T.E. Weekend, in which one male and one female representative from all nine member institutions come together to participate in exercises that promote leadership and teamwork.
In addition to her involvement with the NSU SAAC, Boudreau was also a participant in a host of other campus service projects. She twice volunteered for NSU’s “A Day for Children.” She also took part in the school’s “Lend a Fin” civic engagement day and assisted with Nova Southeastern’s Student-Athlete Etiquette Dinner.
In the Fort Lauderdale community, she participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, the Special Olympics of South Broward County Basketball Tournament, and the Saint Peter’s Hospital fundraiser.
In preparation for a career as an osteopathic physician, Boudreau served as an unpaid Chemistry laboratory assistant. She also participated in a clinical exploration program for three years.
The conference’s Woman of the Year nominee was selected by the league’s athletic directors, senior woman administrators, athletics communications directors, and faculty athletics representatives.
As the SSC’s nominee, Boudreau will compete against hundreds of other nominees from all three NCAA divisions for the prestigious award. Last year’s SSC nominee, Grace Collins from Barry University, was one of three finalists from NCAA Division II and, combined with the three finalists from Divisions I and III, earned the distinction of a Top 9 honoree.
