DADE CITY, Fla. - Round one of the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Men's Golf Championship is complete. Nova Southeastern University led by Juan Jose Guerra is on top of the leaderboard following Day 1 on Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club's North Course. The 2019 event, hosted by the University of Tampa, resumes on Monday, April 15th at 8:30 a.m.

Guerra, last year's SSC champion, holds the individual lead by two-strokes over the field. The senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic carded a 5-under, 67 thanks in large part to his 3-under Par 5 score on Sunday. NSU teammate Martin Larrea and Daniel Faccini of Barry University are tied for second at 3-under. Florida Southern College's Daniel Faccini sits alone in fourth place at 2-under, while three golfers tied for fifth place at 1-under.

NSU shot a 6-under, 282 on Day 1 as a team to hold the early lead at the 2019 championship. The Sharks placed three golfers in the Top-5 participants after Round 1, while the fourth sits tied for 22nd. Barry finshed the day two shots back at 4-under, 284. The Buccaneers boast four players within the Top-10 on Sunday. Saint Leo University and Lynn University are tied for third at 6-over, 294. Both clubs have three student-athletes located in the Top-15.

Guerra's Day 1 5-under (67) ties for the third best single round SSC Championship score at Lake Jovita. Guerra also recorded a 5-under in the 2017 and 2018 conference tournaments.
NSU's Day 1 6-under ties for the sixth best team round at Lake Jovita. Barry's 11-under on April, 14th 2014 stands as the top at Lake Jovita and 10th best all-time.
Golfers found the par four finishing hole the most challenging during Round 1, as it played almost 0.71 over par. Conversely, the par five sixth hole played -0.60 under par. It yielded three of the day's five eagles and only three bogies.
