Women’s Tournament Notes
The largest margin of victory at the SSC Women’s Golf Tournament was 10-strokes by Charlotte Campbell of Rollins College. Campbell shot a 6-over (2016) at Doral in 2004, leading the Tars to victory.
Gartrell’s second-round 69 is the best second round score since NSU’s Anne-Sophie Friis shot the same at Duran in 2007.
Ruiz’s first-round 4-under (68) ties Jennifer Beames’ (Rollins College) Day 2 score at Eaglebrook in 2000 for second best SSC tournament round in history. Marie Coors’ (Saint Leo University) 6-under in 2014 at Lake Jovita stands as the best all-time.
FSC’s Day 2 8-over (296) is 10 shots off of the top single-round score for a team in the SSC tournament history. Barry recorded 2-under (286) at RedTail in 2015. It is the only under-par round by a team in tournament history.
Monday’s scoring average of 80.25 is 2.5 strokes higher than Round 1. Golfers continued to find hole 11 (Par 4) the most challenging, as it played +0.76 above par in round two. Hole 14 played nearest to par for the day; the 140-yard Par 3 saw the most birdies.
Ruiz and Tilda Larsson [Barry] look to join 24 other women who have finished Top-5 in the SSC championship two or more times and a list of 23 golfers that have finished Top-10 three or more times.
Including Ruiz and Larsson, seven of the Top-10 finishers from 2017 return for the 2018 championship: A. Williams [Florida Southern], K. Ortiz [Lynn], A. Foigel [Nova Southeastern], A. Jakobson [Saint Leo], and P. Ortiz [Florida Tech]. All seven golfers also finished Top-17 at the 2016 championship.
2018 marks the 20th women's tournament for the conference and the first competition at Osprey Point.
