2015 All-SSC Volleyball Teams Announced
First Team, Second Team, Newcomer Team, and Honorable Mention
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Twenty-two student-athletes are recognized as All-SSC for the 2015 season. SSC Champions, University of Tampa, boast seven awards including Co-Players of the Year, Jessica Wagner & Berkley Whaley. Voting for the team was conducted among the league's volleyball coaches.
Jessica Wagner and Berkley Whaley of the Tampa are named Sunshine State Conference Co-Players of the Year. Whaley earns the accolade for the third consecutive season. She joins Cindy Yuan (Barry, 1996-98) as the only athletes awarded SSC Volleyball Player of the Year three times. Wagner and Whaley are the third pair of athletes to share the award (1998 & 2000). It is the first time teammates have shared the honored.
Sam Cibrone, Saint Leo University and Jennifer King, Nova Southeastern University have been named Co-Coaches of the Year by their peers. The honor is first for King and the second for Cibrone (2009). King is the first winner from Nova Southeastern since 2007 (Steve Wilcosky).
Newcomer of the Year accolades belong to Anna Siruckova of Saint Leo. Siruckova is Saint Leo’s first Newcomer of the Year. Tampa’s Logan Holanchock has been selected Freshman of the Year. Holanchock is the first Freshman of the Year from Tampa since 2011 (Kahley Patrick).
Whaley and Wagner, along with teammate Marissa Lisenbee, repeat as first team selections from 2014. The remaining four members of the senior laden team are receiving First Team All-SSC awards for the first time. Kayshia Brady of Florida Southern College is a repeat All-SSC second team member from 2014. Florida Southern’s Anna Tovo moves up from the newcomer team to the second team this season.
Player of the Year: Berkley Whaley, Tampa & Jessica Wagner, Tampa
Freshman of the Year: Logan Holanchock, Tampa
Newcomer of the Year: Anna Siruckova, Saint Leo
Coach of the Year: Sam Cibrone, Saint Leo & Jennifer King, Nova Southeastern
