Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of January 12 - 18, 2025. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Trey Lane, Tampa
Junior - Guard - Lakeland, Florida
The Lakeland, Florida native registered a career-high 44 points on the road at Embry-Riddle on Saturday. Lane’s performance is the most points for a Spartan since 2011 and established a new school record with 11 3-point field goals made. He finished the game 11-for-16 from three, 7-for-7 from the free-throw line, and added seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Earlier in the week against No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic, Lane scored 11 points with four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Tim Taiwo, Eckerd
Junior - Guard - Chicago, Illinois
Taiwo, a product of Chicago, Illinois, set the tone defensively for the Tritons, leading them to a 2-0 week. He opened the week at Saint Leo by notching three steals, three blocks, eight rebounds, along with 17 points and three assists. He followed that performance against Florida Southern (RV) by grabbing seven rebounds, a steal and a block, four assists, and nine points. Taiwo played a crucial role in holding the Mocs’ offense to more than 10 points below their season average.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Eliana Sheplee, Embry-Riddle
Redshirt Freshman - Guard - Rice Lake, Wisconsin
Sheplee led the offensive charge for the No. 17 Eagles, shooting 24-for-34 from the field on the week while posting a double-double in each contest. She opened the week at Florida Southern with a 24-point, 12-rebound performance with two steals and an assist, before recording a 32-point, 11-rebound double-double against Tampa. Her 32 points on Saturday rank as the third-most in a single game in Embry-Riddle history, while her 13 made field goals are second-most all-time. This marks Sheplee’s fourth weekly honor of the season.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Breeje Schuler, Palm Beach Atlantic
Senior - Forward - Te Aroha, New Zealand
Hailing from Te Aroha, New Zealand, Schuler delivered a dominant defensive performance for the Sailfish during a 2-0 week on their home court. She opened the week against Tampa with four steals, five rebounds, five assists, and 15 points while playing all 40 minutes. Later in the week against Rollins, Schuler followed that effort by posting two blocks, two steals, and 12 rebounds to go along with five assists and 20 points. This is Schuler’s second defensive weekly honor of the season.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Enzo Constable, Lynn
Freshman - Alles-Sur-Dordogne, France
Constable delivered a standout performance to help lead Lynn University to a 162–100 victory over Florida Tech on Saturday. He captured two individual event wins, touching first in the 50-yard freestyle (20.71) and the 100-yard butterfly (49.25). The Alles-Sur-Dordogne, France native also played a pivotal role in closing the meet as part of Lynn’s winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.37) and 200-yard medley relay (1:30.05).
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Luz Tapia, Lynn
Sophomore - Tijuana, Mexico
Tapia, a Tijuana, Mexico native, put together an all-around performance to lead Lynn to a 199–62 victory over Florida Tech on Saturday. She earned three individual event wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.04, B-cut), 50-yard freestyle (24.08), and 500-yard freestyle (5:11.54), and helped close the meet as part of Lynn’s winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.81).
