SSC Athletes of the Week | September 22 - 28, 2025

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their regular season performances during the week of September 22 - 28, 2025. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Veronika Eremeeva, Barry
Sophomore - Right-Side Hitter - Moscow, Russia - 3rd SSC Weekly Award

Eremeeva tallied a .400 hitting percentage while leading the Buccaneers to a 2-0 start in conference play, including a win at No. 1 Lynn.  The Russian began the week with eight kills on 16 attempts with two errors in a sweep of Nova Southeastern. Eremeeva also provided Barry with four service aces, three blocks, and three digs in the win. In Barry's 3-1 upset at Lynn, the sophomore tallied 16 kills off 34 attempts with two errors, a match-high five blocks, a match-high five service aces, and five digs. For the week, Eremeeva totaled 24 kills while averaging 1.14 digs, 1.14 blocks, and 1.29 service aces per set. The weekly award is the third of her career and the second this season.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Nako Sasaki, Florida Southern

Sophomore - Defensive Specialist - Fukushima, Japan - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Sasaki averaged 6.50 digs per set during FSC's opening week of conference play. The Fukushima, Japan native started the week with a match-high 22 digs in a 3-0 win at Saint Leo. She followed with a match-high 17 digs in a three-set loss to No. 3 Tampa. Additionally, Sasaki provided the Moccasins with eight assists and two service aces last week. The weekly award is her second this season.

Volleyball Setter of the Week

Ashlyn Koerner, Embry-Riddle

Sophomore - Tallahassee, Florida - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Koerner averaged 11.00 assists per set as Embry-Riddle swept a pair of 11-win teams to open SSC play. The sophomore from Tallahassee, Florida, registered 39 assists and one error in 84 attempts in a win over Eckerd. She followed with 27 assists with no errors in 65 attempts against Rollins. With the play of Koerner, the Eagles hit .341 as a team across the two wins. She also provided the Eagles with seven kills and no errors in 11 attempts for a .636 attack percentage, 14 digs, and four service aces last week. The weekly award is the second of her career. 
 

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Dominik N'gatie, Lynn
Junior - Forward - Munich, Germany

N'gatie powered Lynn to a 4-2 win at No. 13 Nova Southeastern with five points off two goals and an assist. The German opened the scoring with a strike in the 21st minute. N'gatie then knocked in the equalizer in the 53rd minute before assisting Robin Muenst's game-winner in the 66th minute. The junior scored both his goals with just two total shots in 68 minutes on the pitch.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Elias Ronning Orn, Florida Tech
Freshman - Goalkeeper - Randaberg, Norway

Ronning Orn tallied a pair of shutouts as Florida Tech bested Rollins and Embry-Riddle to earn six conference points. The Norwegian faced 15 total shots and four corner kicks, making four saves in the 2-0 Panthers victory over Rollins. Ronning Orn followed with a save in Florida Tech's 4-0 win over ERAU. He faced 11 shots and three corner kicks in the match. 
 

Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Lauryn Mateo, Embry-Riddleh
Junior - Midfield - Orange Park, Florida

Mateo contributed on all three Embry-Riddle goals as the Eagles picked up four points in conference play. The Orange Park, Florida native scored the game-winner in the 22nd minute as ERAU bested Tampa on the road. Mateo also found Lena Daase in the 44th minute to provide insurance in the 2-0 ERAU victory. In a 1-1 tie against RV Florida Tech, Mateo scored the game's first goal in the 60th minute. For the week, the senior midfielder tallied six shots, four shots on goal, and averaged 84.0 minutes on the pitch.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Marlen Hernandez, Barry
Freshman - Goalkeeper - Austin, Texas

Hernandez allowed zero goals while making 14 saves in Barry's standoffs against Palm Beach Atlantic and Rollins. The Austin, Texas native tallied 10 saves in the 0-0 result against PBA, including saves on two shots into the upper 90 and a point-blank rebound. Hernandez faced 15 total shots and nine Sailfish corner kicks in the match. Hernandez then helped the Buccaneers earn a point in the SSC standings with four saves while facing nine total shots and three corners in a 0-0 match against Rollins. 
 

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Colten Lee, Palm Beach Atlantic
Senior - Knoxville, Tennessee

Lee broke the 25-minute mark with his performance at the Lucian Rosa Invite in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last week. The senior from Knoxville, Tennessee, finished the 8,000-meter race in 24.52.29, finishing 11th of 220 runners. Lee was the highest SSC finisher by 18 positions.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Beth Sykes, Palm Beach Atlantic
Senior - Redditch, England

Sykes was the highest SSC finisher at the Lucian Rosa Invite in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last week. The senior from Redditch, England, finished the 6,000-meter race in 22.18.74, finishing 32nd of 207 runners. With Sykes' performance, PBA finished eighth of 23 programs.
 
Men's Golfer of the Week

Mohit Balaji, Tampa
Senior - Reunion, Florida

Balaji was victorious at the Hurricane Invitational at Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Georgia, last week. The Reunion, Florida, product bested a field of 81 golfers with a 54-hole score of 5-under, 211, following rounds of 73-68-70. Balaji took the tournament by limiting mistakes; the senior had just six holes above par for the tournament while pouring in 13 birdies. 

Women's Golfer of the Week

Leonie Sinnhuber, Barry
Junior - Stratzing, Austria

Sinnhuber finished tied for third place at the Dallas Baptist Classic at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas. The Austrian outscored 79 golfers with a 36-hole score of 3-under, 141, following rounds of 72-69. She was top-3 in par four scoring at 1-under, ranked fourth in par five scoring at 4-under, and totaled 20 pars and 10 birdies. Following a career-low performance, Sinnhuber was named to the All-Tournament team and helped the Buccaneers finish fifth as a team, besting five Top-25 squads.
