SSC Athletes of the Week | March 31 - April 6, 2025

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 31 - April 6, 2025. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Baseball Player of the Week

Ahmad Fitts, Florida Southern
Graduate Student - Outfield/Designated Hitter - Valrico, Florida - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Fitts tallied six extra-base hits, drove in 11 runs, and scored seven times as Florida Southern went 3-1 last week. The graduate student from Valrico, Florida, began the week with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate in an 18-9 non-conference win over Nova Southeastern, in which he had two doubles, a home run, and six RBI. In FSC's series win over Saint Leo, Fitts was 5-for-11 with five RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, and a home run. Over the four games last week, he added three walks, one HBP, and a stolen base in two attempts. Fitts finished the week with a .533 batting average, a .632 on-base percentage, and a 1.200 slugging percentage. Defensively, the grad student had nine putouts in 10 chances. The weekly award is his second this season.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Nick Berger, Rollins
Senior - Winter Park, Florida - 2nd SSC Weekly

Berger tossed a complete game shutout in game two of Rollins' series win over Barry. The senior from Winter Park, Florida, powered through nine innings on the mound with 102 pitches, holding the Buccaneers to a .167 batting average. Berger allowed five hits and three walks, while striking out eight of the 33 batters he faced in the 8-0 Rollins victory. The weekly award is his second this season.
 


Softball Player of the Week

Teagan Riley, Lynn
Sophomore - Infielder - Tampa, Florida

Riley led Lynn to a three-game sweep of Palm Beach Atlantic by compiling a .545 batting average, a .545 on-base percentage, and a 1.091 slugging percentage. The Tampa product was 6-for-11 at the plate with five runs batted in, four runs scored, and two home runs. Riley tallied multiple hits and scored at least one run in all three games while driving in all five runs during the day two doubleheader.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Gracelyn Wallace, Nova Southeastern
Sophomore - Sorrento, Florida - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Wallace led Nova Southeastern to a series win over No. 1 Tampa following two complete-game performances, 18 strikeouts, and a 0.50 ERA. The Sorrento, Florida native earned the start in game one, tossing seven innings, allowing three hits and two walks. The sophomore struck out 10 Spartans in the 1-0 NSU win. In game three, Wallace threw seven innings, allowing five hits, one run (earned), and four walks. She struck out eight hitters in NSU's dramatic 2-1 victory. The weekly award is his second this season.
 


Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Davis Lindsey, Tampa
Graduate Student - Attack - Huntersville, North Carolina - 3rd SSC Weekly Award

Lindsey led Tampa offensively in conference wins over No. 13 Saint Leo (15-7) and RV Lynn (11-6). The Huntersville, North Carolina native began the week with two goals and a pair of ground balls in the win over the Lions. He followed with game-highs in goals (4), assists (2), and points (6) in the win at Lynn. Lindsey scored his six goals off 15 shots, 12 of which were on goal. The weekly award is his third this season.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
 

Connor Theriault, Tampa
Graduate Student - Goalkeeper - Mount Hermon, Massachusetts - 5th SSC Weekly Award

Theriault helped hold No. 13 Saint Leo and RV Lynn below their season-scoring averages during a 2-0 week for Tampa. The Mount Hermon, Massachusetts, native tallied 10 saves and allowed seven goals in UTampa's 15-7 win against Saint Leo. During an 11-6 win at Lynn, Theriault registered 10 saves and allowed six goals. For the week, the graduate student faced 58 shots from opposing defenses (33 on goal), tallied a .606 save percentage, caused a turnover, and picked up a ground ball. The weekly award is his fifth this season.


Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week

Thomas Garvin, Rollins
Senior - FOS - Mason, Ohio

Garvin went 27-for-44 (.614) in faceoffs this week across Rollins' wins against Florida Southern (20-13) and at Palm Beach Atlantic (11-10, 2OT). The senior from Mason, Ohio, won a 15-of-22 and picked up five ground balls against FSC. Garvin then went 12-of-22 from the X and picked up four ground balls at PBA.
 


Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Peyton Howell, Tampa
Junior - Attack - Towson, Maryland - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Howell was the leading scorer in Tampa's wins over No. 15 Rollins (15-5) and No. 20 Florida Tech (13-9). The Towson, Maryland native totaled six goals, three ground balls, and a caused turnover in the win against Rollins. Howell then tallied seven goals, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls at Florida Tech. Her 13 goals came off 20 shots, 18 of which were on goal. The weekly award is her second this season.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Maria Reeves, Florida Southern
Senior - Midfield - Everett, Washington - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Reeves totaled 29 draw controls across Florida Southern's wins against No. 3 Lynn (15-11) and No. 7 Saint Leo (18-10). The Everett, Washington midfielder opened the week with a game-high 12 draw controls against Lynn. She followed with a game-high 17 draw controls and a ground ball at Saint Leo. The weekly award is her second this season.
 


Women's Golfer of the Week

Amelia Ruiz Topali, Lynn
Sophomore - Santiago, Chile - 4th SSC Weekly Award

Ruiz Topali finished runner-up at the Lynn Invite at Boca Woods Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida. The Chilean outscored 76 golfers with a 52-hole score of 5-under. Her 211 following rounds of 73-68-70 was just one stroke off the lead. The sophomore captured her fifth Top-5 finish this season by shooting 5-under on Par 5's over the three-day event. With the play of Ruiz Topali, Lynn won the event over 14 teams; all ranked Top-30 by Clipped. The weekly award is her fourth this season.
 


Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Mario Garoz, Florida Southern
Junior - Toledo, Spain - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Garoz paced Florida Southern to SSC wins at Lynn (4-3) and at Eckerd (6-1) last week. Against Lynn, Garoz, paired with Chris Fok Kow at the #1 court, fell 6-3. However, the Spaniard rallied in #1 singles to win 6-2, 6-1. At Eckerd, Garoz and Fok Kow won 6-3 in top doubles. Garoz followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the third court. The weekly award is the second of his career.

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Kristyna Hranacova, Nova Southeastern
Sophomore - Most, Czech Republic

Hranacova piloted Nova Southeastern to SSC wins at No. 15 Saint Leo (6-1) and against Eckerd (7-0) last week. At SLU, Hranacova paired with Ita Habekovic at the #1 court, fell 7-6 [7-5]. However, the Czech rallied in #1 singles to win 6-2, 6-3. Against Eckerd, Hranacova and Habekovic won 6-0 in top doubles. Hranacova followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win on the top singles court.
 


Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week

Hailey Wolfe, Tampa
Junior - York, Pennsylvania - 5th SSC Weekly Award

Nevaeh Wolfe, Tampa
Junior - York, Pennsylvania - 5th SSC Weekly Award

The Wolfe twins pick up a fifth Pair of the Week honor this season following Tampa's 5-0 win against Saint Leo. Competing in the top flight for just the second time this season, the duo delivered a win. They bested the Lions top pair 21-15, 18-21, 15-9 to clinch the shutout victory.
 


Men's Outdoor Track Sprinter of the Week

K'Anthony Benjamin, Embry-Riddle
Senior - Sandy Point, St. Kitts - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Benjamin repeats as Sprinter of the Week with his performance at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic. The Kittitian established the second-fastest 100 and 200-meter times in the conference this season. He ran an ERAU record and NCAA provisional time of 21.11 in the 200 prelims before placing third overall in the finals. In the 100, Benjamin took third overall 2ith a time of 10.50.

Men's Outdoor Distance Runner of the Week

Anthony Matthew, Florida Southern
Junior - Stuart, Florida - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Matthew posted the fastest 1500-meter time in the SSC and 12th fastest in NCAA D-II this season following his performance at the Florida Pepsi Relays in Gainesville. The junior from Stuart, Florida, was the top Division II finisher (third overall) at the meet in the 1500, finishing in 3:46.89. Matthews shaved nearly four seconds off his personal best to claim FSC's program record in the event. The weekly award is his second this season.
 

Women's Outdoor Track Sprinter of the Week

Allison Murphy, Tampa
Junior - Naugatuck, Connecticut - 2nd SSC Weekly Award

Murphy captured the Tampa program record and set the top conference time in the 100 hurdles at the ERAU Running Elements Classic in Daytona Beach. The junior from Naugatuck, Connecticut, finished fourth overall in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.59 but earned the UTampa record with a 14.31 mark in prelims. Additionally, Murphy led the Spartans to a fifth-place finish in the 4x100 (47.98) and third place in the 4x400 (3:54.66). The weekly award is her second this season.

Women's Outdoor Distance Runner of the Week

Taylor Roth, Embry-Riddle
Sophomore - Minster, Ohio

Roth bested a field of 75 runners to win the 800 meters at ERAU's Running Elements Classic in Daytona Beach. The Minster, Ohio product, finished the race with an NCAA Division II provisional time of 2:09.35. Roth's performance is a personal best and the top finish in the SSC.

 

Women's Rowing Boat of the Week

Varsity 4 Embry-Riddle

Embry-Riddle's Varsity 4 boat of Kaitlynn Parker (cox), Lorelei Carter, Briella Goldenberg, Lilly Avezzano, and Sabrina Graves won the final at the UCO invite. The V4 registered second-place finishes in the first two rounds before breaking through when it mattered most. With a time of 8:13.29 in the final, ERAU won by six seconds, beating No. 2 Cal Poly Humboldt, No. 4 Seattle Pacific, No. 5 Central Oklahoma, and No. 7 Jefferson. With the win, Embry-Riddle totaled 62 points and took the team title at the event by four points.
