ABOUT:
The 2025 Sunshine State Conference Tennis Championships head to Mitch Gornto Tennis Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Palm Beach Atlantic will host both tournaments April 25 - 27 (Rain date: April 28).
To date the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center boasts 13, fully-lighted courts with shaded seating available in multiple sections of the facility.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) recently named PBA's courts as a Two-Star recognized facility which is the highest honor a tennis court can earn for its quality and construction. The coloring of the courts matches those seen at Flushing Meadows, home of the U.S. Open in New York. Courts 7-12 along with a championship court with more permanent seating were recently completed, giving the Sailfish greater flexibility in scheduling practices, matches and special tournaments.
The state-of-the-art tennis facility bears the name of celebrated and beloved area tennis pro Mitch Gornto, who passed away Feb. 3, 2009.

2025 SSC Women's Tennis Tournament Champions: Barry (16th)
Winners of each championship will receive automatic qualification to the 2025 NCAA Division II Championships. Regional rounds for the NCAA Championships will be played at non-predetermined sites between May 9 and 13. Finals for men will take place May 20-24 and finals for women will be from May 21-25. Both championships will be held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Spring, Florida. The championships are hosted by Rollins College and Greater Orlando Sports Commission. The NCAA will announce postseason selections on Monday, May 5.
SSC NCAA DII NATIONAL CHAMPIONS: Men | Women
Barry leads the SSC with eight women's tennis national championships, including six consecutive titles from 2017 to 2023. Lynn is second in the SSC with three trophies, the last coming in 2001. Nova Southeastern took the 2024 title with a win over Barry in the finals. The first women's tennis national championship won by an SSC institution belongs to former member the University of North Florida, which took home the 1994 national title. From 1997 to 2024, the SSC sent a team to 20 championship matches, ending with 12 titles. SSC opponents have faced one another in the NCAA finals five times: Barry over Lynn in 2011, 2017, and 2019; Barry over Nova Southeastern in 2023; and Nova Southeastern over Barry in 2024.
Barry leads the SSC with seven men's tennis national championships, including four straight titles in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Rollins picked up their last national title in 2001 and owns four overall. Lynn won the title in 2007. From 1996 to 2024, the SSC has sent a team to 19 championship matches, coming away with nine titles.
