Embry-Riddle Women’s Basketball Crowned SSC Tournament Champions

Eagles defeated NSU Sharks, 55-51, on Sunday afternoon

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball program won its first Sunshine State Conference tournament title in dramatic fashion at the ICI Center on Sunday. The top-seeded Eagles overcame a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat third-seeded Nova Southeastern 55-51 to claim the tournament crown. The Eagles' first tournament title comes on the heels of the Blue & Gold winning a share of the 2024-25 regular season title to complete the season sweep.
 
Following Sunday's game, three Eagle student-athletes were recognized for their performance in the SSC tournament. Jenna Teterycz and Mary Lengemann were named to the All-Tournament team, while Madyson Jean-Louis was named tournament MVP.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
• The Eagles scored the first points of the game on a Jean-Louis layup.
• Two consecutive threes helped the Sharks take an 8-6 lead.
• Nova Southeastern outscored the Eagles 12-7 in the latter part of the quarter to take a 20-13 lead.
 
Second Quarter
• The Eagles outscored the Sharks 8-0 in the first 4:25 of the second period to take a 21-20 lead.
• Stupp scored on the Sharks' next possession to retake the lead for the visitors, but a three-point play by Laurie Satchell and a pair of free throws by Kailey Turpening put the Eagles in front by four (26-22).
• After Jean-Louis widened the gap to five (28-23), the Sharks scored used a three and a layup to tie the score at 28-28.
• A hard-fought Satchell layup made it 30-28 in favor of the Eagles with 20 seconds left, but the Sharks hit a three at the buzzer to lead 31-30 at the half.

Third Quarter
• The Sharks outscored the Eagles 12-7 in the third quarter, including six points off Eagle turnovers.
• Only two points separated the teams at the 7:20 mark, but a 7-2 run over the next three minutes helped the Sharks expand the gap to seven (41-34) and heading into the fourth, the visitors led 43-37.

Fourth Quarter
• The Nova Southeastern lead was still seven (46-39) with 7:37 left to play.
• Jean-Louis went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to cut the NSU lead to five, but the next two minutes saw both teams record empty possessions.
• With the shot clock winding down, Teterycz found Turpening and the junior connected on her only three-point attempt of the day to cut the lead to two (46-44).
• After rebounding a Shark miss, Teterycz knocked down her only trey of the afternoon to give the Eagles their first lead since early in the third quarter.
• Satchell free throws and a Jean-Louis jumper gave the Eagles a five-point advantage.
• With 39 seconds remaining, Michaela Cloonan drove to the basket to make it a three-point game.
• The Eagles missed on their next layup attempt giving the Sharks another chance on offense with 12 seconds to play.
• The Sharks got the ball inside to Stupp who missed the layup but was awarded free throws following a foul called against the Eagles with 0.9 seconds left in regulation.
• After Stupp made both free throws, Embry-Riddle called timeout to advance the ball.
• On the ensuing inbounds pass Sarah Napoli was fouled and the senior drained both free throw attempts to seal the championship for the Eagles.
 
NEXT UP
With the tournament title, the Eagles have secured an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA II National Tournament. The Eagles will find out who their first opponent in regional play will be when the national championship bracket is revealed at 10 p.m. on Sunday night.
