The Buccaneers win a third straight SSC title

BOCA RATON, Fla. - [CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL] - At the end of three rounds, Barry topped the field to claim a third straight Sunshine State Conference Championship. Nova Southeastern's Michael Hay edges out a pair of Buccaneers to win the individual title. Lynn hosted the 2024 SSC Men's Golf Championship at Osprey Point Golf Club's Raven/Falcon from April 21 to 23.

Barry, with a three-round score of 18-under (846), the sixth-best in tournament history, clinched the program's seventh trophy. The Buccaneers, propelled by a day one 13-under performance, secured a two-stroke victory in the lowest-scoring tournament in conference history. Nova Southeastern, with a three-round total of 848 (16-under), finished a close second, while Saint Leo, at 849 (15-under), was not far behind in third place.

Individually, Mike Hay bested the 50-man field and became the fifth NSU Shark to win the individual title. Hay, a graduate student from Middlesbrough, England, carded an 11-under score of 205 with rounds of 66-67-72. Hay registered 18 total birdies and was the event leader in Par 4 and Par 5, scoring at 7-under and 8-under, respectively. Albin Ekvall and Miikka Makinen from Barry finished second and third. Ekvall shot a 206 (10-under), while Makinen recorded a 208 (8-under). PBA's Justus Verge finished fourth at 209 (7-under), matching the best finish in program history. Four men tied for fifth at 210 (6-under), including Edoardo Scialango, who brought Embry-Riddle its highest finish in program history.

  • Hay’s 11-under performance is tied for fourth best in tournament history, while runner-up Ekvall’s 10-under is tied for sixth best.
  • Ekvall’s and Makinen’s first round, 7-under, and 65’s, are tied for the third-best rounds in tournament history.
  • Six of the 20 lowest team tournament scores were posted at the 2024 event. Led by Barry’s 18-under (6th all-time) and followed by NSU’s 16-under (T8th all-time).
