Lynn, Nova Southeastern, and Saint Leo are Tied for the Lead After Round Two

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Round two of the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Men's Golf Championship is complete, and national No. 8 Nova Southeastern, No. 11 Saint Leo, and Lynn are tied atop the leaderboard. Play resumes at Osprey Point Golf Club's Raven/Falcon combination on Tuesday, April 23rd at 8:00 a.m.

Men's Individual Round 2 Recap

Mike Hay (No. 20 nationally) of Nova Southeastern leads the tournament with a score of 11-under. He is on pace to become the 26th SSC athlete to record three SSC Top-10 finishes, following a tie for third place in 2023 and a tie for sixth in 2022. His round two score of 5-under (67) was the best of the day. Hay is playing to become the first Shark to win the title since 2018. Barry's Mikka Makinen (No. 132) and Embry-Riddle's Edoardo Scialango (No. 485) are tied for second with a two-round score of 8-under (136). Makinen is vying to become the third straight Buccaneer to win the conference tournament, while Scialango is looking to become the first Eagle ever. 

Barry's Albin Ekvall (No. 127) and Embry-Riddle's Ryan Gear (NR) are tied for fourth place with a two-round score of 7-under (137). Tampa's Alex Mercier (No. 228), Nova Southeastern's Will McGhie (No. 125), and Saint Leo's Brendan Porter (No. 410) are tied for sixth-place at 6-under (138).

Men's Team Round 2 Recap

Barry ended round one as the leader of the tournament, but they dropped to fourth place after strong performances from Saint Leo, Nova Southeastern, and Lynn in round two. Saint Leo had the best round of the day, shooting a combined 10-under (278). Nova Southeastern finished with the second-best score (9-under, 279) and Lynn had the third-best (8-under, 280). All three teams are tied atop the leaderboard with a two-day total of 14-under (562). Barry is one stroke behind at 13-under (563).

Barry is gunning for a third consecutive title and the fourth in five seasons. Lynn's last tournament win came in 2016, while NSU last took the trophy in 2012. Saint Leo has never won a conference title. Rollins, who is in fifth with a two-round score of 12-under (564), looks to hoist the trophy for the first time since 2003. PBA's eying its best finish in program history, never finishing above sixth place at the SSC championship.

  • The average scoring for day two at Osprey Point (Raven/Falcon) was 72.60, slightly worse than yesterday's record breaking 72.26.
  • Hay looks to record his third Top-10 finish and second Top-5 finish at the league championship.
  • 2024 marks the 42nd men's tournament for the conference. Osprey Point becomes the 16th host course since 1991.
  • Lynn leads all teams with three eagles.
  • Saint Leo's Adrian Soriano has recorded two eagles at the tournament. He is one of six players tied for 10th place after two rounds.
