LARGO, Fla. – [CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL] - Saint Leo shot a tournament-best 292 (+4) in round three to capture the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship, their first in program history. Their round was tied for the 15th-best in SSC championship history. Their three-round total of 897 (+33) is tied for the 15th-best score by a team at the SSC tournament. It was the second-lowest three-round total ever posted by Saint Leo.
Nova Southeastern finished second in the tournament, shooting a three-round total of 904 (+40). Their third-round 295 (+7) was the third-best round at the tournament behind Saint Leo's third round and Barry University's second round 294 (+6).
Individually, Saint Leo's Maya Cote was the only player to finish the three-round event under-par on her way to the indiviual title. She finished the tournament with a 215 (-1). She shot even-par or better in all three rounds and led at the end of every round. She's the second Lion to win the individual title after Marie Coors did it twice in 2014 and 2016. Her 215 (-1) is tied for the fifth-best socre in SSC championship history.
Ana Maria Jimenez Rios of the University of Tampa finished second, shooting 218 (+2) over three rounds. Nova Southeastern's Maia Samuelsson (220, +4), and Florida Southern College's Ashleigh Angelo (222, +6) finished third and fourth. Pia Perthen of Saint Leo, Sandra Eriksson of Eckerd College and Daniela Ballesteros of Barry finished tied for fifth.
