Florida Southern leads by three after round one

LARGO, Fla. - Round one of the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship is complete, and national No. 22 Florida Southern leads the field by three strokes. Play resumes at The Bayou Club on Monday, April 15th at 8:00 a.m.

Women's Round 1 Recap
 
Maya Cote of Saint Leo, the No. 117 ranked GolfStat player in Division II, ended the first round atop the leaderboard after shooting a 71 (1-under). She is looking to become the first Lion to win the SSC Championship since Marie Coors in 2016. Lynn's Sara Ericsson (No. 45 nationally) sits just one stroke behind Cote. Nova Southeastern's Jimena Marques (No. 57 nationally) sits third at 1-over, and three athletes are tied for fourth place at 2-over.
 
Individual Full Leaderboard - Day 1
 
FSC holds the No. 1 spot in team competition thanks to four Top 12 performances on day one. They finished round one at 13-over (301). Nova Southeastern is in second place at 16-over (304) with three players in the Top 12. Saint Leo is in third place (307, +19), while Tampa and Lynn are tied for fourth (308, +20).

Women's Tournament Notes
 
The average scoring for day one at The Bayou Club was 78.94, which is the highest since the last round at Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach during the 2021 championship.

Ericsson and Jimenez Rios are the only two golfers to record an Eagle in round one. Jimenez Rios aced the par 3 third, while Ericsson scored a three on the par 5 10th.

Ericsson looks to become the 11th SSC women's golfer with three or more Top-5 finishes at the championship.
