Weekly Honors in Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, & Golf

SSC Athletes of the Week | September 18 - 24, 2023

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of September 18 - 24, 2023. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Nadia Lindner - Nova Southeastern
Grad Student - Outside Hitter - Whitby, Ontario


Lindner takes Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in NSU's conference wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle. In a 3-2 win at PBA, the Canadian put up a match-high 19 kills on 49 attempts with five errors for a .245 hitting percentage. Lindner followed with a match-high 14 kills on 40 attempts and three errors for a .275 hitting percentage as NSU swept Embry-Riddle. She also gave the Sharks 14 digs, six blocks, three aces, and three assists across the two victories. The weekly award is the third of her career.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Haley Manjack - Embry-Riddle
Sophomore - Middle Blocker - Houston, Texas


Manjack collects Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in 2023, following 2.17 blocks per set in two conference road matches. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, began the week with nine blocks in a sweep of PBA. Her nine-block performance ties the SSC individual game-high for a three-set match this season and ties for the eighth most three-set blocks in league history. The sophomore went on to tally a match-high four blocks in a 3-0 loss at Nova Southeastern.

Volleyball Setter of the Week

Madison Cook - Nova Southeastern
Grad Student - Oviedo, Florida


Cook is awarded Setter of the Week following Nova Southeastern's conference wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle. The Oviedo, Florida native recorded a game-high 45 assists in a 3-2 victory at PBA. She then posted a game-high 40 assists as the Sharks swept Embry-Riddle. The graduate student averaged 10.6 assists and 2.1 digs per set while leading the Sharks to a .260 team-hitting percentage over the two matches. The weekly award is the fifth of her career.
 


Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Patrick O'Halloran - Lynn
Senior - Midfielder - Taunton, England


After recording both Lynn goals this week, O'Halloran is honored as Offensive Player of the Week. At Nova Southeastern, the Briton scored twice in the second half (48:53 and 65:01) to lead the Fighting Knights comeback and ensure a 2-2 tie. In a 0-0 tie against Florida Southern, O'Halloran tallied a game-high three shots and, for the week, posted a total of six and five shots on goal.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Ricardo Ceballos - Saint Leo
Junior - Goalkeeper - Mexico City, Mexico


Following Saint Leo's 1-0-1 week and just one goal allowed, Ceballos picks up Defensive Player of the Week accolades. In a 1-0 win at Tampa, the Mexico City native turned away eight Spartan shot attempts while facing 23 total shots. In a 1-1 tie against No. 4 Florida Tech, Ceballos tallied eight saves and allowed a penalty kick goal after facing 24 total shots.
 


Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Kayla Park - Rollins
Junior - Forward - Lisbon, Connecticut


Park wins Offensive Player of the Week following three goals during Rollins' 1-1-0 week. The Lisbon, Connecticut product scored twice in a 3-2 loss against No. 10 Embry-Riddle. Park tied the Eagles in the 35th minute and put the Tars ahead in the 63rd minute. In a 4-0 win against Palm Beach Atlantic, Park found the back of the net in the 57th minute for her SSC-leading fifth goal of the season.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Aidan Smith - Tampa
Sophomore - Goalkeeper - Bokeelia, Florida


Smith receives Defensive Player of the Week honors following a clean sheet at Saint Leo last week. The Bokeelia, Florida sophomore recorded three saves and faced 10 total shots as the Spartans and Lions drew even. Smith has started 2023 with six consecutive shutouts and averages 3.8 saves per game.
 


Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Adrien Zambaux - Nova Southeastern
Senior - Sarasota, Florida


Zambaux takes Runner of the Week honors for his performance at the St. Thomas College Meet in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Sarasota, Florida native finished second with an 8000-meter time of 27:06.6, over 30 seconds faster than third place.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week


Bella Scott - Nova Southeastern
Sophomore - Shippenville, Pennsylvania


Scott is named Runner of the Week for her efforts at the St. Thomas College Meet in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Sophomore from Shippenville, Pennsylvania, finished third with a 5000-meter time of 21:02.8.
 


Men's Golfer of the Week

Jake Nash - Saint Leo
Senior - Sarasota, Florida


Nash garners Golfer of the Week after winning the Griffin Invitational at the Country Club of Petersburg in Petersburg, Virginia. The senior from Sarasota, Florida, repeats as the Griffin Invitational winner with an 11-under, 205, over the 54-hole event. With the play of Nash, Saint Leo won the team title at 14-under (850).


Women's Golfer of the Week

Olivia Deakins - Saint Leo
Sophomore - Dobbs Ferry, New York


Deakins collects Golfer of the Week following her Dallas Baptist Women's Classic win. Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas, was the site for Deakins' 9-under, 207 performance across 54 holes. The Dobbs Ferry, New York native bested the 83-person field by three strokes thanks to a pair of 67s in the first two rounds. With the play of Deakins, Saint Leo finished seventh of sixteen teams, besting five Top-25 programs.
