SSC Athletes of the Week | April 10 - 16, 2023

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of April 10 - 16, 2023. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Baseball Player of the Week

Cameron Meehan / Rollins / Sr. / Outfield / Orlando, Florida
Meehan is named Player of the Week for his efforts in a road series at No. 12 Colorado Mesa last week. The senior from Orlando went 5-for-10 at the plate with two doubles and a home run, providing the Tars with three runs scored, four walks, and eight runs batted in. During the three-game set, Meehan tallied a .500 batting average, a .600 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Defensively the outfielder recorded eight putouts and an assist in 10 attempts.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Alex Canney / Tampa / So. / Valrico, Florida
Canney repeats as Pitcher of the Week for his work on the mound in a 13-0 win against Eckerd. The Valrico, Florida native started game two for the Spartans, allowing five hits and no runs in eight innings. Canney earned the victory following three strikeouts and a walk. Following the performance, the sophomore extends his scoreless inning streak to 16.1. The weekly award is the fourth of his career.
 

Softball Player of the Week

Lexie Chevalier / Tampa / Jr. / Catcher / Valrico, Florida
Chevalier is awarded Player of the Week for her play in Tampa's sweep of Eckerd. The junior from Valrico, Florida, was 4-for-7 at the plate with three runs batted in, two runs scored, two home runs, and a walk. The first of the three-game set was her best as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored, and a home run. For the week, Chevalier produced a .571 batting average, a .625 on-base percentage, and a 1.429 slugging percentage. Defensively, the catcher registered 16 putouts and an assist in 17 chances.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Madilyn Dutton / Florida Tech / Fr. / Bristolville, Ohio
Dutton collects Pitcher of the Week following her performance in the circle against Barry. The Bristolville, Ohio freshman started game three against Barry, tossing a complete game shutout, the first of her career. Dutton allowed four hits and a walk while fanning a career-high seven hitters in the 1-0 Panther victory.

 

Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Grant Hansen / Rollins / So. / Midfield / Medford, New Jersey
Hansen collects Offensive Player of the Week with his play in Rollins's wins over No. 16 Florida Southern (14-6) and Saint Leo (24-14). The Medford, New Jersey sophomore opened the week with two goals and an assist in the win over FSC. Hansen then scored eight goals, picked up a ground ball, and caused a turnover in the win against Saint Leo. The midfielder's eight scores against SLU set the FSC single-game program and are the most for an individual in conference play this season.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Shahe Katchadurian / Rollins / Gr. / Goal / Goldens Bridge, New York
Katchadurian wins Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in 2023 following his performances in Rollins' wins against No. 16 Florida Southern (14-6) and Saint Leo (24-14). The Goldens Bridge, New York product began the week with 12 saves while facing 18 shots on goal in the Top-25 win against FSC. The grad student then registered 14 saves while facing 27 shots on goal in the victory over SLU. With the play of Katchadurian, Rollins improves to 5-0 in SSC play and needs just one win to claim at least a share of the SSC title.

Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week

Noah McKoeun / Palm Beach Atlantic / Sr. / Midfield / Kennesaw, Georgia
McKoeun picks up Specialist of the Week for his 0.740 faceoff percentage across Palm Beach Atlantic's two conference matches. The senior won 17-of-22 faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine groundballs in a loss to Lynn. At Embry-Riddle, the Kennesaw, Georgia native won 20-of-28 faceoffs, tallied a game-high nine ground balls, and scored a goal in a losing effort. The weekly award is the third of his career.
 

Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Jackie Stoller / Florida Southern / Gr. / Midfield / Wayland, Massachusetts
Stoller takes Offensive Player of the Week honors for her role in Florida Southern's wins over No. 21 Saint Leo (17-10) and No. 13 Embry-Riddle (26-14). The grad student from Wayland, Massachusetts, began the week with a game-high five points following four goals and an assist. She also provided the Moccasins with a groundball and a pair of caused turnovers in the win. In a battle of Top-15's, Stoller recorded a game-high six points following five goals and an assist. The midfielder also tallied two caused turnovers in the win.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Dani Waters / Tampa / Gr. / Defender / Smithtown, New York
Waters earns Defensive Player of the Week honors with her performance in Tampa's win against No. 8 Rollins (17-7). The grad student from Smithtown, New York, recorded a game-high four caused turnovers, along with three ground balls and a draw control in the win. Waters collected her 100th career caused turnover in the win, becoming the first Spartan to reach the mark.


Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Martin Soukal / Saint Leo / Gr. / Brno, Czech Republic
Soukal earns Athlete of the Week laurels for the second time in 2023 by leading Saint Leo to the program's third SSC Regular Season Championship. In the final SSC match of the season, at No. 12 Rollins, the Czech and partner Vincent Thiel won at #1 doubles (6-2) against the No. 9 nationally ranked duo of Efe Comu and Luke Quaynor. Soukal then bested No. 68 Quaynor in #2 singles (6-1, 3-6, 6-3), giving Saint Leo the match-clinching point to defeat the Tars and earn the title.

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week


Fatima Bizhukova / Nova Southeastern / Gr. / Balashiha, Russia
Bizhukova collects Athlete of the Week after an undefeated week across three SSC matches. In double action, the Russian and partner Natalie Espinal won (6-1) at the #1 position against No. 9 Raquel Amaro and Victoria Sanchez from No. 9 Tampa. Bizhukova and Espinal also took down the top duos from Rollins (6-0) and Eckerd (6-1). The grad student picked up #4 singles wins against Tampa (7-5, 6-1) and Rollins (6-1, 6-3) before blanking Eckerd's #3 (6-0, 6-0). With the play of Bizhukova, NSU locks down the #2 seed in the 2023 SSC tournament.


Boat of the Week

Varsity 8 / Embry-Riddle
Embry-Riddle's Varsity 8 boat of Megan Byrne (coxswain), Shelby Ernst, Kendra Sander, Soleil Edwards, Sofia Lorenzini, Elise Dezotell, Alexandra Weilert, Veronika Zdrazil, and Kristen Vigna win Boat of the Week following their performance at the 2023 SIRA Championships. The Eagles finished fourth in the Varsity Eight 'A' Final at the SIRA Championships with a time of 7:09.666, just nine seconds away from winner Kansas State and five behind Jacksonville and Dayton. The Eagles placed ahead of Rollins by 11 seconds and Barry by 17 seconds. It was the program's best-ever finish at the SIRA Championships in Eights. This week's honor is the third of the season for ERAU's Varsity 8.
