DAY 5 RECAP: 2023 Sunshine State Conference Swim Championship
Nova Southeastern captures the women's championship and Tampa secures the men's championship

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The 2023 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships have come to an end after an exciting weekend. On the women's side, Nova Southeastern won their seventh SSC Championship, breaking the record for team points with 1,041. NSU held the previous points record of 997.5 in 2018. On the men's side, Tampa has been crowned SSC champions for the second time in program history. The Spartans secured their first SSC championship in 2020.
CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL / RESULTS
Top Performances:
For the championship, 11 meet, and six conference records were set on the men's side. On the women's side, two NCAA Division II records were broken, eight meet records were set, and four conference records bested.

NSU swimmer Emily Trieschmann was named Female Swimmer of the Meet. She tallied 80 points, took down the 1000 Free NCAA Division II record, helped beat the 800 Free Relay NCAA Division II record, and set three meet records. Santi Corredor of Tampa was named Male Swimmer of the Meet. He tallied 77 points across four events and set the SSC records in the 200 Back and 400 IM.
In women's competition, Trieschmann took home gold in the 1650 Free, setting a meet record of 16:31.90. Helga Fodor of Lynn would take first in the 100 free with her time of 49.90. Lynn's Luna Mertins touched the wall first in the 200 back at 1:56.56. Savanna Best earned gold in the 200 back at 2:13.58. Tampa closed out the evening with a top finish in the 400 relays, making the cut for nationals at 3:21.19.
Hayden Curley took gold to kick off the night for Tampa, setting a new meet record at 15:12.68 in the 1650 Free. Kyle Micallef touched the wall first in the 100 Free for Florida Southern at 43.85. Corredor shattered the conference and meet record in the 200 back at 1:43.36. FSC's Matteo Zampese placed first in the 200 Breast with his time of 1:56.85. Tampa would close out their championship night with a win in the 400 Free Relay at 2:54.98, setting a new meet record.
