SSC Athletes of the Week | October 30 - November 5, 2023
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of October 30 - November 5, 2023. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Nadia Lindner - Nova Southeastern
Grad Student - Outside Hitter - Whitby, Ontario
Lindner collects Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts across three NSU matches, including a win against No. 2 Tampa. The Canadian capped the week with a match-high 17 kills and added 11 digs in the Sharks' 3-1 win over previously undefeated Tampa. Before the big win over UT, Lindner led NSU to a 3-2 win against Palm Beach Atlantic following a match-high 20 kills, seven digs, and four blocks. The graduate student also gave her team a match-high 15 kills, 10 digs, three service aces, and two blocks in a four-set loss to Florida Southern. In her 14 sets played, Lindner tallied 52 kills (3.71/s), 28 digs (2.00/s), and six blocks (0.43/s). The weekly award is the fifth of her career and her third in 2023.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Kalli Schoening - Eckerd
Junior - Middle Blocker - Eugene, Oregon
Schoening wins Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 1.83 blocks per set in Eckerd's two matches last week. The middle blocker from Eugene, Oregon, tallied six blocks, including two solos, in a 3-0 win against Florida Southern. She then provided the Tritons with five blocks in a three-set loss to Embry-Riddle. Schoening also gave her team 13 kills on 28 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage in the two games.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Madison Cook - Nova Southeastern
Grad Student - Oviedo, Florida
Cook is awarded Setter of the Week for the third time in 2023 for her efforts across three NSU matches, including a win against No. 2 Tampa. The Oviedo, Florida product began the week with a match-high 54 assists in a 3-2 victory against Palm Beach Atlantic. She then posted a match-high 48 assists as the Sharks fell to Florida Southern in four sets. In the 3-2 win over Tampa, Cook tallied a match-high 52 assists to go along with 11 digs and a block. The graduate student averaged 11.0 assists, 2.6 digs, and 0.5 blocks per set while leading the Sharks to a .215 team-hitting percentage over the three contests. The weekly award is the seventh of her career.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Jacob Callahan - Embry-Riddle
Freshman - Forward - Lake St. Louis, Missouri
Callahan earns Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in 2023 with five points in Embry-Riddle's final game of the season. The forward from Lake St. Louis, Missouri, led the Eagles program to its first SSC win since 2021 with two goals and an assist in the final five minutes against Palm Beach Atlantic. Down 1-0, Callahan scored the equalizer in the 85th minute off a Cambell Young assist. The freshman then assisted on Sandro Henning's game-winner in the 90th minute before knocking in an insurance goal less than 30 seconds later. With the play of Callahan, ERAU bested PBA, 3-1, in Daytona Beach.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hayden Judge - Rollins
Sophomore - Defender - Tampa, Florida
Judge is selected Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in 2023 following his performance in a 4-0 win at Saint Leo. The Tampa product was vital in delivering the Tars' fifth clean sheet of the season. Judge led a Rollins defense that allowed just one shot on goal and one corner kick in the shutout. The sophomore also scored in the 65th minute from an assist by Nazar Tsaruk.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Marem Ndiongue - Florida Tech
Senior - Midfield-Forward - Sicily, Italy
Ndiongue is honored as Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in 2023 with a hat trick in Florida Tech's last regular-season game. In a 3-1 win against Florida Southern, Ndiongue knocked in the game's first goal in the 17th minute from an Eve Tiktikakis assist. The Italian scored the game-winner off a penalty kick in the 31st minute and then took advantage of a quick turnover and an out-of-position goalkeeper with a long insurance goal from midfield in the 90th minute. With the play of Ndiongue, Florida Tech captured its first SSC regular-season title since 2010.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Lauren Mehos - Rollins
Freshman - Goalkeeper - Marietta, Georgia
Mehos receives Defensive Player of the Week after a clean sheet in Rollins' last regular-season contest. The Marietta, Georgia product registered two saves, faced seven shots on goal, and four corner kicks in the win. With the play of Mehos, Rollins defeated Saint Leo, 3-0, in Winter Park.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Jadin Booth - Florida Southern
Junior - Guard - Omaha, Nebraska
Booth is selected Player of the Week after winning Most Valuable Player honors at the 2023 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic for the second consecutive year. The guard from Omaha, Nebraska, started the event with a game-high 30 points as FSC defeated Virginia Union, 79-62, in Lakeland. The junior went on to score a game-high 38 points in an 87-82 win against No. 8 UNC Pembroke. Booth totaled 68 points by shooting 54% from the field (19-35), 58% from behind the arc (11-19), and 95% from the free-throw line (19-20). He averaged 34.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.5 steals while playing 39.5 minutes per game. The weekly award is the third of his career.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Steen - Florida Southern
Sophomore - Forward - Panama City Beach, Florida
Steen is named Defensive Player of the Week following his performance at the 2023 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. The sophomore registered three blocks, a steal, and 10 defensive rebounds at the event, helping FSC to victories over Virginia Union (79-62) and No. 8 UNC Pembroke (87-82). Offensively, he scored 29 points and pulled down 10 offensive rebounds across the two games.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Mya Giusto - University of Tampa
Senior - Guard - Naples, Florida
Giusto is selected Player of the Week after leading Tampa to a 2-1 record at the 2023 CCA Tip-Off at the Trailhead Tournament in Billings, Montana. The guard from Naples, Florida, had at least 13 points and seven rebounds in each game. She led the Spartans to wins over Minot State (63-57) and Texas A&M - Kingsville (60-58) and was the team's leading scorer and rebounder in a loss to Gannon (68-56). Giusto totaled 43 points by shooting 56% from the field (15-27), 40% from behind the arc (4-10), and 75% from the free-throw line (9-12). She averaged 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 39 minutes per game.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Lina Stranger-Johannessen - Florida Tech
Senior - Guard - Oslo, Norway
Stranger-Johannessen is named Defensive Player of the Week following her efforts at the 2023 CCA Tip-Off at the Trailhead Tournament in Billings, Montana. The senior registered seven steals, a block, and ten defensive rebounds across the Panthers' three games. Offensively, she scored 20 points, dished eight assists, and brought down three offensive rebounds.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Robert Greninger - Rollins
Sophomore - Orlando, Florida
Greninger picks up Golfer of the Week after a tied-for-second-place finish at the Citrus Intercollegiate at ChampionsGate Golf Club in Championsgate, Florida. The sophomore from Orlando carded a 6-under, 210, over the 54-hole event. Greninger followed an even par 72 in the first round with 67 to conclude day one and a 71 on day two. His 138 over the last two rounds was the second-lowest score in the 72-man field. Greninger was second in Par 5 scoring (6-under) at the event and fifth in Par 4 scoring (4-under). With the play of Greninger, Rollins finished third in the team standings at 2-under (858).
Women's Golfer of the Week
Daniela Ballesteros - Barry
Senior - Lima, Peru
Ballesteros is awarded Golfer of the Week following her win at the NCAA National Division II Championship Fall Preview. The Peruvian shot carded a 6-under score of 138 to tie for first place. The two-round event was held at Panther Lake Golf Course at Orange County National in Orlando, Florida. Ballesteros' first round 67 was the lowest of the day and the second lowest round of the tournament. She finished first in Par 3 (4-under) and Par 5 scoring (4-under) at the event. With the play of Ballesteros, Barry finished third in the team standings at 3-over (579).
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Inigo Marina - Nova Southeastern
Sophomore - Malaga, Spain
Marina is selected Swimmer of the Week after leading Nova Southeastern to a 230-161 dual meet win against Lynn. The Spaniard was victorious in four individual races: 50 Breaststroke (25.26), 200 Breast (2:00.58), 100 IM (51.14), and 100 Breast (54.27). Marina's times in the 100 and 200 Breast surpassed NCAA "B" provisional cut times. The sophomore also led his team to two wins in the 200 Medley Relay (1:32.57) and 400 Medley Relay (3:22.68).
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Emily Trieschmann - Nova Southeastern
Junior - Lake Worth, Florida
Trieschmann collects her third Swimmer of the Week nod in 2023-24 following her swims in Nova Southeastern's tri-meet against Lynn and Florida International. The Lake Worth, Florida product won the 200 free (1:51.29), 500 free (4:56.36), and 1000 Free (10:12.49). All three times surpassed NCAA "B" provisional cut times. The weekly award is the sixth of her career.
