SSC Athletes of the Week | November 13 - 19, 2023

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of November 13 - 19, 2023. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Samantha Wolf - Lynn
Grad Student - Outside Hitter - Cincinnati, Ohio


Wolf garners Offensive Player of the Week following her performance in Lynn's 3-0 week to wrap up the regular season. The Cincinnati, Ohio, product began the week with 10 kills, eight digs, a block, and an ace in a four-set win over Nova Southeastern. Next, Wolf paired a match-high 20 kills with 11 digs for a double-double in a four-set win over Saint Leo. She added an ace and two blocks in the victory. Lastly, the outside hitter totaled a match-high 23 kills to accompany 15 digs in a four-set win over Eckerd. Wolf averaged 4.42 kills and 2.82 digs per set, along with a .277 hitting percentage across her 12 sets. The weekly award is the second of her career.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Aline Olegario - Lynn
Junior - Middle Blocker - Balneario Camboriu, Brazil


Olegario collects Defensive Player of the Week with 1.50 blocks and 0.58 digs per set during Lynn's 3-0 week. The Brazilian had three blocks and two digs against Nova Southeastern, a match-high eight blocks and two digs against Saint Leo, and a match-high seven blocks and three digs against Eckerd. With Olegario's presence, the Fighting Knights won all three matches in four sets. Offensively, the middle had 29 kills (2.42/s) and sported a .281 hitting percentage. The weekly award is her third in 2023.

Volleyball Setter of the Week

Emily Edwards - Lynn
Grad Student - College Station, Texas


Edwards is named Setter of the Week for the fifth time in 2023 after averaging 11.92 assists per set during Lynn's final three regular season matches. The College Station, Texas native totaled 38 assists with three errors in a four-set win against Nova Southeastern. Edwards then registered a match-high 48 assists, with one error, in a four-set win over Saint Leo. Lastly, she tallied a match-high 57 assists in a four-set victory over Eckerd. Thanks to Edwards, Lynn hit .265 as a team across the three matches. The weekly award is the ninth of her career, tying her for second-most all-time among Lynn athletes and fifth all-time among SSC volleyball athletes.

  

Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Amari Davis - Tampa
Senior - Guard - Trotwood, Ohio


Davis collects Player of the Week laurels following 25.5 points per game across Tampa's two games last week. The Trotwood, Ohio guard led the Spartans to a 106-103 double overtime win against Francis Marion following 30 points, five rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Davis followed with 21 points, five rebounds, and a steal during an 86-80 loss to Georgia College. He totaled 51 points by shooting 38% from the field (15-40), 33% from behind the arc (1-3), and 80% from the free-throw line (20-25).

Defensive Player of the Week

Matheus Silveira - Rollins
Senior - Center - Tres Pontas, Brazil


Silveira receives Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Rollins' contests against Lincoln and Warner. The senior from Brazil registered six blocks, a steal, and four defensive rebounds in a loss to Lincoln (80-73). Silveira followed with three blocks, a steal, and four defensive rebounds in a win against Warner (67-61). Offensively, the center scored 38 points with a .690 field goal percentage. He also pulled down two offensive rebounds and dished four assists.
 


Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Mya Giusto - University of Tampa
Senior - Guard - Naples, Florida


Giusto earns Player of the Week for the second time in 2023-24 by leading Tampa to a 72-41 conference win against Saint Leo. The Naples, Florida guard scored 24 points by shooting 11-15 from the field (.730) and 2-4 from three. Guisto added five rebounds, four steals, and four assists to her stat sheet during her 38 minutes on the court.

Women's
Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

Ashleigh Boulin - Palm Beach Atlantic
Senior - Forward - Queens, New York


Boulin is named Defensive Player of the Week after her performance in PBA's win over West Alabama. The senior forward had five steals, two blocked shots, and two defensive rebounds in the victory. The Queens, New York native was instrumental in limiting the Tigers to a 23% shooting percentage in the second half. Offensively, Boulin tallied two points, two offensive rebounds, and an assist in the 73-65 Sailfish win.

 

Men's Swimmer of the Week

Santiago Corredor - Tampa
Senior - Fort Myers, Florida


Corredor picks up Swimmer of the Week for the second time in 2023-24 following his performance at the Gamecock Invite. The Fort Myers, Florida senior won the 500 Free with a University of South Carolina pool record time (4:19.34). He was also victorious in the 400 IM, following a program record time (3:45.16) and the 200 Fly (1:46.24). Corredor surpassed the NCAA "A" cut times in all three events. Corredor was also part of UT's winning 200 Medley Relay (1:26.33) and 800 Free Relay (6:29.14) teams. The 200 MR squad set a program record with their swim. The weekly award is the third of his career.


Women's Swimmer of the Week

Emily Trieschmann - Nova Southeastern
Junior - Lake Worth, Florida


Trieschmann grabs her fourth Swimmer of the Week of 2023-24 following a pair of Sunshine State Conference records at the Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy. The Lake Worth, Florida product won the 500 Free on Friday with an SSC record time of 4:44.12. She followed with an SSC record in the 1650 Free on Sunday with a time of 16:24.97. Additionally, Trieschmann took first place in the 400 Individual Medley (4:15.8). In relays, she was part of NSU's two runner-up performances in the 400 Medley Relay (3:43.32) and 800 Free Relay (7:30.86). The weekly award is the seventh of her career, which ties her for second most in SSC women's swimming.
