MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference presents the 2022 softball postseason awards. Thirty-six student-athletes from nine member institutions are recognized as All-Conference. Nova Southeastern leads the way with 12 accolades, including Player, Freshman, and Coach of the Year. Voting for the All-SSC softball awards was conducted among the league's head coaches.
SSC Softball All-Conference History: All-SSC Teams | Players & Coaches of the Year
The league office recognizes Tia Williams and Julie LeMaire from Nova Southeastern as the Player and Coach of the Year, respectively. Tampa's Mary Beth Feldman and Rollins' Ashley Worrell share Pitcher of the Year laurels, while NSU's Ashley Connor and Tampa's Lilly Kiester each win Freshman of the Year accolades. Dating back to 1995, no SSC softball athletes had ever shared Pitcher or Freshman of the Year honors until this season.
Williams, a senior from Land O' Lakes, Florida, finished the regular season with a .389 batting average off 61 hits. The utility player recorded a .522 slugging percentage with 16 extra-base hits and 38 runs batted in this season. She also tallied a .434 on-base percentage, 41 runs scored, and 30 stolen bases. Defensively, she registered a .913 fielding percentage following 91 putouts and 81 assists in 196 chances. Williams becomes the fifth Shark in program history to win Player of the Year

Feldman appeared in 17 games in 2022 and made 14 starts for the Spartans. She closed out the regular season with a 13-1 record, 11 complete games, and six shutouts. The Lithia, Florida product struck out 86 batters and produced a 0.43 ERA and a 0.753 WHIP in her 97 innings pitched while holding opposing batters to a .164 average. The sophomore is the fifth Spartan athlete to earn Pitcher of the Year laurels

This season, Worrell made 29 appearances in the circle and threw 14 complete games for Rollins. The Oviedo, Florida native ended the regular season with a 16-5 record, 157 innings pitched, 148 strikeouts, a .162 batting average against, a 1.11 ERA, and a .820 WHIP. The junior is the fourth Tar athlete to earn Pitcher of the Year laurels and the first since 2011

Connor, a right-handed pitcher from Jacksonville, Florida, started 17 games for the Sharks and tossed 15 complete games, including six complete-game shutouts. She made 26 appearances in 2022, finishing the regular season with an 17-3 record, three saves, 94 strikeouts, a 1.29 ERA, and a .934 WHIP. Connor is the first NSU Shark to be named SSC Freshman of the Year in softball.
Kiester started 31 of Tampa's 46 games this season and provided her team with 25 hits and a .338 batting average. The Tampa native scored 16 times, drove in six runs, and swiped three bases in 2022. Defensively, the outfielder sported a perfect fielding percentage following 38 putouts and two assists in 40 chances. LeMaire is voted Coach of the Year by her SSC peers after leading Nova Southeastern to the program's first conference title. She is the first NSU head coach to win the award. The Sharks finished the regular season with a 23-7 conference record and 37-12 overall tally.
Cheyenne Nelson of Florida Tech highlights the repeat All-SSC winners for 2022. Nelson, a 2022 First Team selection, was the 2021 SSC Player of the Year and a 2021 First Team and 2019 Second Team honoree. Mikayla Wessel (Florida Tech), Chelsea Peace (Rollins), Madison Fine (NSU), and Mariah Galhouse (Tampa) also earn a second First Team All-Conference honor during their careers. Worrell, Tori Szrom (Florida Tech), Corynn Miner (Tampa), and Katherine Budnovich (Palm Beach Atlantic) make the jump to the First Team following Second Team honors in 2021. In total, 14 athletes honored in 2022 repeat as First or Second Team All-SSC award winners. This year's accolades include All-Defensive Team honors for the first time in league history.
