All-SSC Men's Lacrosse Selections for 2022

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Forty-seven student-athletes have been recognized as All-Conference in the ninth year of Sunshine State Conference men's lacrosse. Matthew Beddow from the University of Tampa collects Player of the Year honors, while his skipper, JB Clarke, captures Coach of the Year accolades. Matt Flammenspeck from Florida Southern College and Grant Hansen of Rollins College share this year's Freshman of the Year laurels. Voting for the All-SSC Men's Lacrosse honors was conducted among the league's head coaches.

Beddow becomes the first defensive player named SSC Player of the Year. The junior from San Diego, California, piloted a Spartans defense that led the SSC in goals allowed (140) and goals allowed per game (8.75). Beddow finished 10th in SSC ground balls with 59 and 3.69 ground balls per game. He was also fifth in caused turnovers at 32, bringing in 2.00 per game. Beddow is the third UT athlete named SSC Player of the Year in men's lacrosse and the first since 20191.
 
Flammenspeck appeared in 12 games for FSC this season, starting eight times. The Calgary, Alberta product scored 27 goals and is currently 11th in SSC goals per game (2.25). Hansen saw action in 13 games for Rollins in 2021-22 thus far. He has totaled 35 points off 12 goals and a team-high 23 assists. The Medford, New Jersey native ranks seventh in conference assists per game (1.69). Flammenspeck is the first Moccasin to be named Freshman of the Year, while Hansen is the second Tar to win the award2. They are the first pair to win SSC Freshman of the Year honors in the same season.
 
Conference coaches select Clarke as the Coach of the Year during his first year with the Tampa men's lacrosse program. Under his leadership, the Spartans program won its sixth SSC regular-season title and has held the No. 1 ranking in the USILA and US Lacrosse Magazine polls for the last six weeks. The undefeated Spartans rank fifth nationally in scoring margin (6.88), 10th in goals per game (15.62), and 11th in goals allowed per game (8.75). Clark is the second from Tampa to be named Coach of the Year3.
 
Along with Justin Williams of Florida Tech, Beddow and teammates Owen Matukas and Blake Ulmer repeat as First Team honorees from 2021. FSC's Kevin Horwitz and Jeff Atlas both earn a third career All-SSC honor, as do Xander Cosenza of Lynn University and Gunner Gebelein of Palm Beach Atlantic University. In total, 12 athletes honored in 2022 repeat as First or Second Team All-SSC award winners. Eleven of this year's honorees began their careers as members of the All-SSC Freshman Team.
