SSC Athletes of the Week | November 14 - 20, 2022
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of November 14 - 20, 2022. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
EJ Dambreville / Florida Southern / Sr. / Guard / Dorchester, Massachusetts
Dambreville is awarded Player of the Week accolades for his performance in FSC's two wins last week. The Dorchester, Massachusetts native scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 100-98 victory at Clayton State. The guard followed with 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in a 73-72 win against Palm Beach Atlantic to open up conference play. Dambreville scored his 48 points by shooting 64% from the field (21-33), 33% from behind the arc (3-9), and 75% from the line (3-4). The senior averaged 24.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while playing 74 minutes.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Kyle Marion / Rollins / Sr. / Guard / Jacksonville, Florida
Marion is selected Defensive Player of the Week following the Tar's conference opener at Embry-Riddle. The Jacksonville native registered six steals and seven defensive rebounds in an 88-82 losing effort. Offensively, Marion gave Rollins 16 points and seven assists in the contest.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Mya Giusto / Tampa / Jr. / Guard / Naples, Florida
Giusto is selected Player of the Week following her performance in a pair of Tampa wins. The Naples, Florida native tallied 16 points, five rebounds, and an assist as UT won 71-44 against Fort Valley State. Giusto returned to the floor with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in a 75-69 overtime victory against Barry to open conference play. Last week, the guard totaled 37 points by shooting 57% from the field (12-21), 69% from behind the arc (9-13), and 67% from the line (4-6). Giusto averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while playing 71 minutes.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Sydney Kin / Tampa / Sr. / Forward-Center / Carey, Ohio
Kin garners Defensive Player of the Week honors following her performance in a pair of Spartan home games. The Carey, Ohio native tallied three blocks, two defensive rebounds, and a steal as UT won 71-44 against Fort Valley State. Kin returned to the floor with a game-high 14 defensive rebounds, two steals, and a block in a 75-69 overtime victory against Barry to open conference play. Offensively, Kin tallied 43 points, seven offensive rebounds, and three assists. The weekly award is the second of her career.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Matteo Zampese / Florida Southern / Sr. / Bologna, Italy
Zampese picks up Swimmer of the Week laurels after registering four NCAA B standard times in individual races at the Panther Invitational. The senior from Italy won the 200 IM (1:48.78), 100 fly (48.35), 200 breast (1:58.01), and was second in the 100 breast (53.78). In relays, Zampese won the 200 free relay (1:22.31), 200 medley relay (1:28.70 (invite record)), 400 free relay (3:01.28), and was second in the 400 medley relay (3:17.93).
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Emily Trieschmann / Nova Southeastern / So. / Wellington, Florida
Trieschmann earns a third Swimmer of the Week honor in 2022 following her performance in a dual meet against Division I Florida Atlantic. The Wellington, Florida native broke the conference record in the 500 freestyle, posting a time of 4:44.97. She then placed second in both the 200 freestyle (1:47.92) and the 1650 freestyle (16:39.01). Trieschmann was also part of the first-place 800 freestyle relay team, breaking the SSC record with a time of 7:19.62.
