SSC Athletes of the Week | September 13 - 19, 2021

Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of September 13 - 19, 2021. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.

Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Elizabeth Price / Nova Southeastern University / OH / Fr. / Tampa, Florida
Price garners Offensive Player of the Week honors following Nova Southeastern’s 2-0 start to conference play. The Tampa native tallied 14 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win at Lynn. She followed with 18 kills and a .324 hitting percentage in a 3-2 comeback win against Palm Beach Atlantic at home. The freshman outside hitter averaged 4.00 kills, 4.18 points, and .88 digs per set this past week.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Tierra Porter / Florida Southern College / Sr. / MB / Meridianville, Alabama
Porter tallied 15 total blocks (1.9 per set), 12 kills, and three digs as the Moccasins started conference play undefeated. In a 3-1 win at Saint Leo, she posted season-highs with three solo blocks and eight total blocks, in addition to seven kills. The Meridianville, Alabama product followed up with seven blocks, including a season-high six block assists and five kills against in a 3-1 home victory against Eckerd. The weekly award is the second of her career

Volleyball Setter of the Week

Cassidy Markel / Florida Southern College / So. / Smyrna, Delaware
Markel is awarded Setter of the Week after totaling 98 assists (12.3 per set) and 18 digs across a pair of SSC wins against Saint Leo and Eckerd. The Smyrna, Delaware native, recorded a season-high 50 assists, seven digs, and four blocks in four sets against the Lions. Markel then tallied a 48 assist / 11 dig double double in four sets against the Tritons. With the play of Markel, FSC hit .242 as a team on the week, including a season-high .289 attack percentage at Saint Leo.
 

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Michael Lawrence / Nova Southeastern University / Jr. / Forward / Miramar, Florida
Lawrence came off the bench to lift NSU over Barry and earn Offensive Player of the Week accolades. The forward from Miramar, Florida, drew a foul call in the box during the 65th minute, which led to teammate Matty Cornish drawing the game even at one goal apiece. Lawrence then found the back of the net with his left foot in the 87th minute to lift the Sharks to a 2-1 comeback victory.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Nathan Hubbs / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Defender / Palm Coast, Florida
Hubbs is awarded Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in ERAU's 1-0 overtime win at Saint Leo. The Palm Coast, Florida native, led an Eagles' defense that limited the Lions to seven shots and three shots on goal in 104 minutes on the pitch. During the game's final moments, Hubbs found himself in an advantageous position as he deflected in a cross for the game-winner and his first score in an ERAU uniform.
 

Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Kaia Senecal / Eckerd College / Fr. / Forward / Brooklyn, New York
Senecal is awarded Offensive Player of the Week thanks to her efforts in Eckerd's 4-3 win against Lynn. The Brooklyn, New York product spent 33 minutes on the pitch for Eckerd, earning three points off a goal and an assist. She assisted Tariah Miller's score in the 14th minute to give Eckerd the early 1-0 lead. Senecal then provided the Tritons with the eventual game-winner in the 59th minute. Senecal is the first Offensive Player of the Week for Eckerd since Abbey Sanchez won on October 23, 2017.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Lovisa Camel / University of Tampa / Jr. / Goalkeeper / Taby, Sweden
Camel receives Defensive Player of the Week honors following 180 minutes in goal for Tampa last week. The Swede recorded five saves and allowed one goal in UT's 1-0 loss to No. 7 UC - Colorado Springs. In repeat fashion, she tallied five stops and allowed one goal as the Spartans defeated Barry 5-1 on the road.
 

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Mason Jones / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Titusville, Florida
Jones earns his eighth career weekly award following an 18th place finish against Division I and top Division II competition at the 2021 Florida State University Open. The Titusville, Florida, product finished the 8K race with a time of 24:23.5, 16 places ahead of the next Division II runner. Jones paced Florida Southern to a third-place finish among Division II squads. With this week's award, Jones moves into a tie for the fifth-most SSC men's cross country Runner of the Week awards and a tie for eighth-most in FSC history across all sports.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Zoe Jarvis / University of Tampa / Sr. / Tampa, Florida
Jarvis takes repeats as Runner of the Week for the third consecutive week after a second-place finish among Division II runners at the 2021 Florida State University Open. The Tampa native crossed the line in 36th place overall against Division 1 and top Division II competition with a 6K time of 22:11.2. The weekly award is the eighth of her career.
 

Women's Golfer of the Week

Nathalie Svensson / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Uppsala, Sweden
Svensson's finish at the 2021 South Regional Preview earns her Golfer of the Week honors. The Swede led Florida Southern to a 5th-place finish at the event, following a seventh-place individual finish. Svensson closed just seven strokes off the pace of the individual medalists by carding a first-round 74 (+3), a second-round 76 (+5), and third-round 70 (-1), for a total of 220 (+7). Her tournament low of 70 tied the best single-round of her career.
