MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech women's swimmer Savannah Brennan repeats as the Sunshine State Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The swim team captain finished her double major in Genomics and Molecular Genetics and Biomedical Science with a 3.97-grade point average. She currently holds a 4.00 GPA in her Biotechnology graduate program.
Voting for the award is conducted among Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from the 11 SSC member institutions.
Brennan, a native of Oviedo, Florida, also repeats as Florida Tech's Distinguished Student Scholar and the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences' Outstanding Student of the Year. Additionally, she stayed perfect in earning every CSCAA Scholar All-American, SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, and Dean's List award that she has been eligible for during her career.
Brennan continued to serve as the President of Florida Tech's Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society chapter and Secretary of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology through Spring 2021. She remained in her various laboratory positions on-campus and completed an undergraduate research assistantship in May before moving on to a graduate research position. Brennan's generosity with her time endured as she volunteered her time with Team IMPACT, Holmes Regional Medical Center Emergency Department, and coaching for the Panthers swim team and the Brevard Breakers Swim Club.
In the pool, Brennan once again earned CSCAA All-America honors this year for her performance in 400 Individual Medley at the NCAA Division II championship. Her time of 4:20.77 placed her 14th in the 400 IM, making her the first female swimmer to score points for Florida Tech in the National Championship. Brennan currently holds six school records in individual events and four relay records along with her teammates.
Brennan is the first athlete to repeat as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 12 years, joining Shyla Rider (Softball - 2007-08 & 2008-09) and Greta Trotman (Tennis - 2004-05 & 2005-06) from Barry University as well as the University of Tampa's Dawn Rawlings (Volleyball - 1996-97 & 1998-99). She remains the first swimmer and third Florida Tech student-athlete to be honored as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year since conference administrators established the award in 1995-96. Previous Panthers to win the honor were: Kari Wanat (Volleyball - 1999-00) and Marina DeBiasi (Cross Country - 2017-18).
