MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Tournament begins on Wednesday, April 21st, with four teams battling in semifinal action. The championship and third-place matches are slated to start Saturday, April 24th. All tournament matches will be played at campus sites.
 
Barry, the 2021 conference regular-season champions, earn the #1 seed in this year's tournament. The Buccaneers will take on #4 Lynn University in the opening round. Nova Southeastern University grabs the #2 seed and matches up against #3 Saint Leo University during the semifinals. 
 
Semifinal #1
Barry finished the regular season at 8-0 to win the program's fifth SSC Regular Season championship. As the #1 seed, Barry will welcome in #4 Lynn on April 21st at 2:00 PM. Lynn finished the season 6-3 in league play, including a 6-1 loss to Barry in Miami Shores on March 30th. The Buccaneers and Fighting Knights are both vying for a twelfth SSC tournament title. Lynn defeated Nova Southeastern, 4-0, to win the 2019 title. Barry last won the tournament in 2018. The SSC Women's Tennis Championship has been won by either the Buccaneers or Fighting Knights each year since 1998.
 
Semifinal #2
Nova Southeastern ended the 2021 regular-season at 8-1 in the league and thusly earned the #2 seed and the right to host a semifinal match. The Sharks will host Saint Leo at 12:00 PM on April 21st. The Lions posted a 7-2 conference record, with one of their two losses coming against Nova Southeastern (5-2) on March 7th. Both Nova Southeastern and Saint Leo are fighting for SSC postseason tournament title number one. The Sharks' and Lions' last SSC tournament matchup came in 2018 during the third-place match. Saint Leo walked away with a 5-4 victory.

SSC Women's Tennis National Championships
Barry leads the SSC with five women's tennis national championships, including back-to-back-to-back titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Lynn is second in the SSC with three trophies, the last coming in 2001. The first women's tennis national championship won by an SSC institution belongs to former member the University of North Florida, which took home the 1994 national title.
