Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 15 to 21, 2021. Athletes are nominated by Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Max Jones / University of Tampa / Fr. / Guard / Clearwater, Florida
Jones is awarded Player of the Week honors after leading all scorers in two contests against Saint Leo University last week. He opened his collegiate career on the road with a game-high 23 points, connecting on 3-of-9 three-pointers while also grabbing six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. The Clearwater, Florida native netted 22 points in his home debut while also tallying two assists and a team-high four steals. Jones scored his 45 points by shooting 52% from the field (17-33), 31% from behind the arc (5-16), and 86% from the free-throw line (6-7). Jones played 76 minutes for the Spartans, where he totaled seven rebounds, six steals, four assists, and a blocked shot.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Jalyn Hinton / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Forward / Boston, Massachusetts
Hinton earns his fifth overall Defensive Player of the Week award following Florida Southern's win against Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Bostonian registered six blocks and 10 defensive rebounds in the 92-77 home victory. Offensively, Hinton provided his team with 12 points, four assists, and a rebound.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Harriet Swindells / Barry University / Guard / Sr. / Blackburn, England
Swindells takes Player of the Week honors following a pair of wins for the Buccaneers. The Blackburn, England native began the week with 18 points in Barry's 79-70 double-overtime win against Florida Southern College. She followed with a game-high 15 points as the Buccaneers defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 59-50 at home. Swindells totaled 33 points by shooting 39% from the field (12-31), 37% from behind the arc (7-19), and 100% from the free-throw line (2-2). In her 67 minutes on the court, she recorded eight rebounds, six assists, a block, and a steal.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Emma Hergot / Barry University / Forward / Sr. / Oslo, Norway
Hergot earns Defensive Player of the Week honors following her performance in Barry's 79-70 double-overtime win against Florida Southern College. The Norwegian tallied game-highs in defensive rebounds (12), steals (2), and blocks (2) as the Buccaneers snapped FSC's 10 game win streak in the series. Offensively, Hergot recorded 16 points, seven offensive rebounds, and two assists as the Buccaneers won two games last week.
