Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Sonja Udovcic / Lynn University / Jr. / OH / Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Udovcic earns Offensive Player of the Week for her roll in Lynn’s 2-0 record against Top-25 opponents last week. The Bosnia and Herzegovina product also extended her double-double streak to four matches with a pair over the weekend. Against No. 16 Barry University, Udovcic posted a team-high 16 kills and had 20 digs. The next day versus No. 23 Palm Beach Atlantic University she added 17 kills and kept the double-double streak going with 21 digs. On the weekend she hit .227 and averaged 3.67 kills and 4.56 digs per set. The weekly award is the third of her career.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Lauren Odom / Lynn University / Jr. / MB / Tampa, Florida
Odom grabs her second career Defensive Player of the Week award after her efforts in Lynn’s pair of Top-25 victories this past week. Against No. 16 Barry University, the Tampa native had three block assists and a solo block in addition to her four kills. She then stepped up against No. 23 Palm Beach Atlantic University with six block assists, three solo blocks, and four kills. Currently, she sits second in the conference in blocks per set. Odom is the first Fighting Knight to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors since November 6, 2017, when she last won the award.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Anna Garrett / Saint Leo University / Jr. / Setter / Merritt Island, Florida
Garrett is awarded Setter of the Week for the fourth time in her career after the Lions defeated Florida Southern College and No. 13 University of Tampa. The Merritt Island, Florida native, averaged 11.0 assists per set over the week while digging up 2.43 balls per set. She began the week with 38 assists in just three sets against the Mocs, while also putting down three kills. Against the defending national champion Spartans, she registered 39 assists and 12 digs in a 3-1 road victory. It marked her fourth double-double of the season and third in the last four matches. Garrett moves into fourth all-time on the career assists charts at Saint Leo with 2,160.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Rojay Smith / University of Tampa / Sr. / Forward / Portmore, Jamaica
Smith takes Offensive Player of the Week following a pair of game-winning goals for the Spartans. He opened the week wth a goal in double overtime helping Tampa to a 4-3 victory over Thomas University. He followed suit against the defending national champion Barry University Buccaneers, knocking in the game-winner in the 68th minute off an Amgad Salah assist. Smith is the first Spartan to win Offensive Player of the Week since October 23, 2017 (Felipe DeSousa).
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Gudmundur Sigurbjornsson / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / So. / GK / Akranes, Iceland
Sigurbjornsson takes Defensive Player of the Week after helping Embry-Riddle open conference play with a win for the first time since becoming a full-time member of NCAA Division II. The Icelander faced and saved five shots during the Eagles' 1-0 win against Saint Leo University in the SSC opener for both teams. It is the first shutout of the season for Embry-Riddle and the second of his career. Sigurbjornsson is just the second Eagle to win Defensive Player of the Week, first since October 23, 2017 (Richard Dearle).
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Anniina Sankoh / Lynn University / So. / Forward / Helsinki, Finland
Sankoh scored a combined 10 goals in the Fighting Knights' last three games to capture Offensive Player of the Week accolades. The Finn has now scored in four of Lynn's six contests this season. The sophomore racked up a school-record six goals against Florida Memorial University and then followed that performance with a hat-trick versus Johnson and Wales University (Fla.). Sankoh also scored the equalizing goal in Lynn's 1-1 SSC season-opening tie against Eckerd College. She currently leads the conference with 11 goals and 26 overall points. Sankoh is the first Fighting Knight to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors since September 28, 2015 (Emily Weisberg).
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Megan Bromwell / University of Tampa / Jr. / GK / Hamilton, N.J.
Bromwell earns Defensive Player of the Week honors following a shutout in Tampa's SSC opener. Against defending conference champion Barry University, she finished the contest with five saves en route to her third career shutout. Bromwell, a native of Hamilton, New Jersey, is the first Spartan to earn Defensive Player of the Week accolades since September 29, 2014 (Caroline Frykgard).
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ryan Szklany / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / So. / Lighthouse Point, Fla.
Szklany won his first-ever collegiate meet crown on Saturday as the sophomore beat out teammate Calahan Warren over the final 100 meters to win the 2019 ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic. Szklany has been the top Eagle finisher in the first two races of the season and again led the Eagles to the ASICS Classic title, finishing in 25:53.7. The weekly award is the third of his career.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Sarah Edens / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Sr. / Gainesville, Florida
Edens finished second overall at the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic on Saturday. The Gainesville, Florida product ran 19:04.1 to pace the Eagles and lead them to their ninth ASICS Classic title in 17 years. Edens has finished first for ERAU in all nine of her races for the Blue and Gold over the past two seasons, earning five SSC Weekly Awards in the process.
Men’s Golf of the Week
Trystan Perkins / Rollins College / Sr. / Guernsey, Channel Islands
Perkins finished tied for 10th among a field of 90 golfers at the Kiawah Island Invitational last week. The Channel Islands native fired off rounds of 71 and 70 to finish three under par for the event. As a team, Rollins finished tied for 8th in the 18 team tournament. The weekly award is the second of his career.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Loren Perez / Florida Southern College / So. / Bartow, Florida
Perez tied for second at the Battle at Old South with a 1-under (143) to lead the Moccasins to a second-place finish. The Bartow, Florida native tallied a one-under 71 in the first round to tie a career-low. She followed with an even 72 in the second round to help lead the Mocs to their second-straight second-place finish.
