Mary Day Hired as Coordinator of SSC Women’s Basketball Officials

Day brings 28 years of collegiate women’s basketball experience to the league

MELBOURNE, Fla. –  Mary Day has been hired by the Sunshine State Conference to serve as the Coordinator of Officials for Women’s Basketball. She brings 34 years of officiating experience to the league, including 28 years within the collegiate ranks.
 
As Coordinator of Officials, Day will be responsible for the selection, evaluation, and assignment of all women’s basketball officials for each game hosted by an SSC member institution.

The pursuit and spirit of excellence displayed in the classroom and on the court in this league ranks among the top in the nation,” commented Day. “I am excited and honored to be a part of contributing to the greater good of women’s basketball for the conference.”
 
Day received the Naismith Award for Women’s Basketball Officiating in 2011. This prestigious award is given to individuals who display character, integrity, and dignity, and who have made significant contributions to the growth, success, and viability of college basketball. To be considered, candidates must be involved as a college official for at least 20 years and officiate at least one Final Four game and 10 conference tournaments.
 
During her career on the floor she officiated the 2007 & 2008 NCAA Division I Final Four semifinals and in 15 NCAA Division I First/Second rounds. When she retired from officiating in 2016, her resume included work with 13 different conferences. Currently, she holds the Supervisor of Women’s Basketball Officials position in the NCAA DIII Southern Athletic Association.
 
Day graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, & Recreation in 1984. Her duties with the SSC will begin immediately.

About the Sunshine State Conference

Founded in 1975, the Sunshine State Conference has risen from a single sports organization to the Division II “Conference of National Champions.” Since its inception, the conference has shown steady growth in sports played, membership, and national prominence. Member institutions have won a total of 111 NCAA national championships across 12 sports and boast an NCAA Division II best 86% Academic Success Rate.

The SSC consists of 11 member institutions, all within the state of Florida: Barry University (Miami Shores), Eckerd College (St. Petersburg), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach), Florida Institute of Technology (Melbourne), Florida Southern College (Lakeland), Lynn University (Boca Raton), Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Lauderdale), Palm Beach Atlantic University (West Palm Beach), Rollins College (Winter Park), Saint Leo University (Saint Leo), and the University of Tampa.
