Jeanjean Tabbed Athlete of the Year

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Nineteen student-athletes have been named to the 2019 All-Sunshine State Conference women's tennis teams, it was announced Wednesday, May 8th. Lynn University claims seven league awards, including Athlete of the Year, following the SSC regular-season and postseason titles. Voting for the All-SSC teams was conducted among the league's women's tennis coaches.

Leolia Jeanjean of Lynn University is awarded SSC Athlete of the Year following a 16-0 singles record and a 7-0 doubles record with partner Ulyana Grib. The senior from Montpellier, France becomes the seventh Fighting Knight to win Athlete of the Year in women's tennis1, second consecutive. Jeanjean played all of her singles matches and nearly all doubles matches from the #1 position helping Lynn to a 22-0 overall record, a 10-0 conference record and both the SSC regular-season and postseason tournament championships. Currently, Jeanjean is ranked No. 8 in the ITA's Division II Collegiate Rankings and, along with Grib, is No. 5 in doubles.
 
Nova Southeastern University's Natalie Espinal has been voted Freshman of the Year after posting a 17-3 singles record for the Sharks, which includes an 8-2 mark at #1 singles. Presently, she is listed as the No. 26 singles player in the ITA's Division II Collegiate Rankings and is No. 28 in doubles along with partner Sarah Wardenburg. The Tegucigalpa, Honduras native becomes the first Nova Southeastern student-athlete to claim Freshman of the Year honors in women's tennis.
 
As voted on by his peers, Doug Neagle of Nova Southeastern has been named the SSC Coach of the Year for 2019. Under his command, the Sharks won 12 more matches than last season, finished fourth place in the SSC regular-season, were conference tournament runners-up, and reached a program-record No. 3 ITA ranking. In his third year at the helm, Neagle becomes the first NSU coach to win the award in women's tennis.
 
Marta Vicens Miquel of Saint Leo is the only All-SSC athlete to repeat as First Team Singles from 2018. Saint Leo’s Andrea Ivanovic and NSU’s Daniela Obando both repeat as First Team Doubles performers from a year ago, while their partners, Kristyna Jurkova and Ana Navas, trade 2018 First Team Singles honors for First Team Doubles awards in 2019. In total, half of the upperclassman award winners this season repeat as All-SSC.
