Eighteen Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes Earn All-SSC Accolades in 2018
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Eighteen student-athletes have been named to the 2018 All-Sunshine State Conference women's tennis teams, it was announced Friday, April 27th. Barry University claims eight league awards following SSC regular-season and postseason titles.
Voting for the All-SSC teams was conducted among the league's women's tennis coaches.

Klaudia Boczova of Lynn University is awarded SSC Athlete of the Year following a 23-0 singles record and a 13-2 doubles record with partner Eliska Petrackova this season. The senior from Nové Zámky, Slovakia, becomes the sixth Fighting Knight to win Athlete of the Year in women's tennis
1, the first since 2015. Boczova went 10-0 from the #1 singles and 9-0 from the #1 doubles positions in conference play to help Lynn to a 19-4 overall record, a 9-1 conference record, and runner-up finishes in the SSC regular-season and postseason tournament. Currently, Boczova is ranked No. 6 in the ITA's Division II Collegiate Rankings and, along with Petrackova, is No. 4 in doubles.
Saint Leo University's Marta Vicens Miquel has been voted Freshman of the Year for 2018. Vicens Miquel posted a 14-7 singles record for the Lions, which includes a 6-4 mark at #1 singles in SSC play. Along with teammate Andrada Gordan, Vicens Miquel recorded a 12-4 overall and a 5-2 SSC record in doubles competition. She becomes the second Saint Leo student-athlete to claim Freshman of the Year honors in women's tennis
2. The Port de Pollensa, Spain product is presently ranked No. 26 in the ITA's Division II Collegiate Rankings.
As voted on by his peers, Chad Berryhill of Saint Leo has been named the SSC Coach of the Year for 2018. In his second year at the helm, Berryhill becomes the first Saint Leo coach to win the award in women's tennis. Under his command, the Lions won eight more matches in 2018 than last season, finished third place in the SSC regular-season
3, won the third-place match in the conference tournament, and earned a bid into the NCAA Division II South Region tournament. After finishing 2017 as the No. 33 team in the ITA Collegiate Rankings, the Lions have improved 25 positions to their current No. 8 ranking.
Sonja Larsen of Barry is the only All-SSC athlete to repeat as First Team from 2017; she collected the honors for both her singles and doubles play last season. Saint Leo's Kristyna Jurkova and Florida Tech's Alahna Reto move up to the First Team from Second Team accolades a year ago. Boczova was All-SSC First Team in 2016, while Larsen also earned First Team honors in 2015. The future bodes well for SSC women's tennis, as nine of the 18 ALL-SSC honorees are underclassman.
