Four SSC Women's Soccer Athletes Garner CoSIDA Academic All-America Awards

AUSTIN, Texas -- Women's soccer athletes from Barry University and Florida Southern College have earned 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America honors. The Buccaneers lead Division II with three honorees.

Twenty-five of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division II Women's Soccer teams have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with 16 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 12 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.91.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America teams program.

First Team - Christy Grimshaw, Barry University

Grimshaw, the only graduate student on the teams, is a First-Team pick. In her first semester in graduate school, the Stonehaven, Scotland native graduated with a dual major in management and marketing, after compiling a 3.48 GPA. She is currently pursuing her MBA. Grimshaw, the Sunshine State Conference and NCAA Division II South Region Player of the Year, led the Bucs to a 16-1-1 record with 17 goals and 12 assists. Six of her goals were game-winners, tied for most in the conference. Grimshaw is the first Buccaneer women's soccer player to earn first-team honors on both the academic and athletic All-America teams.

Second Team - Molly Sharpe and Melanie Ziegner, Barry University

Sharpe, a senior in applied sport & exercise science from Bradford, England, carries a 3.78 GPA. The SSC Offensive Player of the Year, she saved 14 goals and added a league-high 13 assists. She also had six game-winners.

Zeigner, a senior from Muenster, Germany, carries a 3.97 A First-Team All-SSC and All-South Region pick, she went 14-1-1 in 17 games with a 0.38 goals against average and eight solo shutouts. Her GAA is the fourth-best in program history and gives her a school-record 0.57 career goals against average in two seasons.

Third Team - Caitlin Quaempts, Florida Southern College

Quaempts started in 14 of her 16 games played and recorded two goals as a prominent member of the Moccasins defense. In the classroom, she owns a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in Biology and Spanish. She's been a recipient of multiple scholarships including the Christoverson scholarship, Pfeiffer scholarship, as well as a soccer scholarship. Quaempts has seen her name numerous times on the Presidents scholars list, Deans list, and the Sunshine State Conference Commissioners Honor Roll, and is a member of Florida Southern College's Honors Program.
