Barry and NSU to Meet in SSC Women’s Soccer Tournament Final

#1 Buccaneers vs. #2 Sharks on Sunday at 1 PM in Miami Shores

MELBOURNE, Fla. - [PDF Bracket | WSOC Tournament Page] - No. 1 Barry University and No. 2 Nova Southeastern University will face off in the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament championship. The Buccaneers shutout Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, while the Sharks defeated Rollins College in the semifinals. The championship match will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4th at Buccaneer Field in Miami Shores.

HOW THEY GOT HERE....

Barry (15-0-1, 9-0-1) finished the regular season with 28 points (9-0-1) to capture the 2018 SSC regular season title and receive the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament. The championship is Barry’s 10th overall and first since the program won three straight from 2013 to 2015. Four different Buccaneers scored in Barry’s 4-0 semifinal win over Embry-Riddle. Nova Southeastern (13-5-1, 7-2-1)  grabs the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament following 22 points in league play. As the two seed, the Sharks received a quarterfinal bye. In the semifinals, Jemma House scored twice for the Sharks in a 3-0 win at home against Rollins College. Natalie Robayna shined for the Sharks by recording six saves in her 90 minutes in goal. - FULL RECAP

THIS SEASON....

Barry and Nova Southeastern met in non-conference action on September 12th in Miami Shores. The Buccaneers were victorious, 2-1. Sarah Wignall and Molly Sharpe scored for Barry, while Adanna Edwards netted a goal for NSU. - FULL RECAP

In conference action, the teams came to a 1-1 tie on October 3rd in Ft. Lauderdale. Goalkeepers Melanie Ziegner and Natalie Robayna stopped four shots and allowed one goal in 110 minutes. Grimshaw and NSU’s Emma Heikkila scored in the contest. - FULL RECAP

RECENT MATCHUP HISTORY....

Barry owns the advantage between the programs over the last 10 years (6-4-3), including a 4-1 record from 2011 to 2015. On November 4th, 2016 Nova Southeastern defeated Barry (2-1) in the conference semifinals. It stands as the only SSC postseason match between the programs.

NCAA POSTSEASON...

Winner of the men's and women's tournaments will receive automatic qualification to the 2018 NCAA Division II Soccer Championships. The opening rounds of the NCAA Division II Championship are scheduled for Thursday, November 8th - Sunday, November 18th at non-predetermined sites. Semifinals and finals for both men and women will be Friday, November 30th - Sunday, December 2nd at Swope Park in Kansas City, Missouri.
