Four SSC Players Named AVCA DivisionII All-America
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Volleyball) – On Wednesday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2013 AVCA Division II All-America Team. Four Sunshine State Conference volleyball players were recognized, while three others were named honorable mention.
Tampa’s Berkley Whaley was named AVCA Division II First Team All-America, while her teammate Holly Reschke was named to the second team. The Spartans’ Marissa Lisenbee received third-team honors.
Rollins’ Camille Indest was also named to the second team with Reschke.
Named AVCA Division II Honorable Mention All-America were: Lindsay Biggs (Eckerd), Meagan Burke (Tampa) and Jaclyn Mailoto (Saint Leo).
In just her sophomore year, Whaley put the Spartans on her back en route to their fifth consecutive NCAA South Region Title. In the title-clinching win over West Florida, Whaley nailed 21 kills on .455 hitting as Tampa heads into the national quarterfinals as the No. 1 ranked squad in the most recent AVCA Coaches Poll. The Daktronics South Region Player of the Year earns AVCA All-America honors for the first time.
Indest has been an invaluable asset to the Tars earning berths into the NCAA Tournament all four years and their third 20-win season. She carried them offensively, leading the team with 3.71 kills per set and a .329 hitting percentage. Defensively, she tallied 108 total blocks to help advance Rollins to the second round of the NCAA South Region Tournament. Indest is a first-time AVCA All-American.
Leading her Tampa squad to their fifth straight regional championship, Reschke currently ranks second on the Spartans averaging 2.77 kills per set while placing in the top-20 in the SSC in hitting percentage (.259) and points per set (3.01). Reschke garnered AVCA All-American honors last year, making this her second appearance.
Lisenbee improved on an impressive freshman season and now owns a .351 hitting percentage with 73 blocks. Her outstanding play helped Tampa to a perfect SSC record (16-0) for the second consecutive season and a number one ranking in the AVCA Division II poll. This is her first AVCA All-America award.
