MELBOURNE, Fla. - For the fourth time in the past seven years, Rollins College claimed the women’s division of the Sunshine State Conference Mayors’ Cup all-sports trophy. This year marks the sixth time the Tars have taken home the all-sports trophy.

First presented following the 1986-87 academic year, the award was traditionally sponsored by the Mayors of the nine communities in which SSC member institutions are located.

“Congratulations to Acting President Dr. Craig McAllaster, athletic director Pennie Parker and the entire Rollins Athletic Department and student-athletes on winning the women’s all-sports trophy for the sixth time overall,” commented SSC Commissioner Ed Pasque.

In the women’s division, points are awarded based on final regular-season conference standings in basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball*. Points are awarded based on a team's finish at their respective conference championship event for cross country, golf, rowing, and swimming.

Only two and a half points separated the top five schools in this year’s standings.

After finishing in second each of the last two years, Rollins posted a league leading point total of 48.5 for 2014-15. The Tars gained the majority of their points by finishing runner-up in basketball, soccer, golf, and lacrosse. Rollins also finished fourth in volleyball and softball.

Saint Leo University finished right behind Rollins with a total of 48 points. The Lions were champions in cross country and finished third in volleyball, soccer, tennis, and softball.

Barry University and Nova Southeastern University tied for third place with 47 points each. Barry generated a large portion of their points with four conference championships (soccer, golf, tennis, rowing) and a second place finish (softball). Nova Southeastern had two first place finishes (basketball, swimming) and two second place finishes (tennis, rowing) in the SSC.
