16 SSC Baseball Players Selected in MLB Draft

NEW YORK—The Sunshine State Conference cemented it reputation as one of the richest baseball circuits in NCAA Division II as 16 players from five different conference schools were selected in Major League Baseball’s 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Conference champions Barry University, perennial power University of Tampa and Nova Southeastern led the way with four selections each, while Florida Southern had three and national champion Lynn had one.

Florida Southern shortstop Robbie Shields was the highest pick, going 103rd overall to the New York Mets.
