2011 All-SSC Baseball Team Announced
A total of 35 student-athletes have been named to the 2011 All-Sunshine State Conference Baseball Team. Barry’s Dean Green was selected Player of the Year, while his coach, Marc Pavao, was recognized as Coach of the Year. Eckerd’s Joey Cuda was voted Pitcher of the Year, and Nova Southeastern’s Carlos Asuaje was tabbed Freshman of the Year.

Nova Southeastern SP Nick Avila and Rollins 3B Kevin Mager received honorable mention.
A senior from Tulsa, Okla., Green proved to be one of the most potent hitters in the SSC, ranking among the league’s best in a number of offensive categories. Green’s .402 batting average was second among SSC hitters, while he led the conference with a .810 slugging percentage, .523 on-base percentage, 71 RBI, and 18 home runs. Additionally, he ranked third with 19 doubles and 74 hits. At one point in the season, Green carried a 21-game hitting streak. He was named SSC Player of the Week three consecutive weeks during that span.
A junior from St. Petersburg, Fla., Cuda ranked among the conference pitching leaders in a number of categories. Pitching a league-leading 108.2 innings, he ranked second with a 1.66 ERA. His 110 strikeouts were third-best in the SSC, while he walked just 23 batters. Cuda’s opponents managed to hit just .216 when he was on the mound, which ranked fourth among conference pitchers in opponent batting average. He was recognized as SSC Pitcher of the Week on April 25.
In his debut season at Nova Southeastern, Asuaje batted .358 with 41 RBI and 48 runs scored. He was even more formidable against conference foes, increasing his batting average to .404 in league play. Asuaje tied for fourth in the SSC with 17 doubles, while his 69 hits ranked ninth. He also ranked 10th with a .438 on-base percentage. A native of Weston, Fla., Asuaje was named SSC Player of the Week on May 2nd.
In his sixth season at Barry, Pavao wins his second SSC Coach of the Year award after leading the Buccaneers to their second conference championship in three years. The Bucs concluded the regular-season with a 35-15 overall record and a 20-4 mark in SSC play. They are currently ranked 11th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. Pavao’s pitchers led the league with a 3.39 ERA and ranked second with a .268 opponent batting average. Offensively, his squad led the SSC with 64 home runs and placed third with 359 runs and 332 RBI.
Voting for the all-conference team was conducted among the league’s baseball coaches and sports information directors.
