No. 3 University of Tampa (11-3-5, 5-2-1) at No. 1 Barry University (12-2-1, 6-1-1)
HOW THEY GOT HERE….
Barry earned a first round bye after winning the SSC regular season championship. The Buccaneers defeated No. 5 Florida Tech, 2-1, in the semifinals. Tampa advanced though the quarterfinals and semifinals by penalty kicks. Tampa tied No. 6 Saint Leo, 1-1, but outscored the Lions in PK's, 5-4. The Spartans and No. 2 Nova Southeastern ended double overtime at a 1-1 lock. Tampa bested the Sharks, 5-4, in PK's.
LAST TIME THEY MET….
Barry and Tampa last met on October 17th in Tampa. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Lavinia Nkomo put the Buccaneers up early in the second half and Lauren Moore of Tampa tied the score in the 54th minute. UT's Caroline Frykgard stopped 10 shots in 110 minutes, while Barry's Paula Forero stopped three.
Over the last 10 games between the programs, UT holds the edge (5-2-3). The last time the Spartans defeated the Buccaneers in regulation or overtime was September 18th, 2013 (3-2). Tampa outlasted Barry in penalty kicks during the 2014 SSC tournament. This is the fourth consecutive year the teams have played two or more times.
